On second thought, Kim can sit between us.

So who's doing the trick on Kim?

Movie Reviews: 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby'

Critics are marveling at the product-placement tonnage displayed in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The movie "may break new records for product placements per frame," writes A. O. Scott in the New York Times. Steven Rea in the Philadelphia Inquirer writes that it's "a veritable orgy of product placement." Chris Vognar in the Dallas Morning News calls it "a product-placement bonanza." Still, many of the products -- it's a NASCAR movie, remember, and ads arguably rank second only to cars at NASCAR events -- come in for heavy spoofing. And the critics generally are a satisfied crowd. "Will Ferrell does chicken-fried comedy right: with crackpot discipline and stripped-to-the-beer-belly courage," writes Michael Sragow in the Baltimore Sun.Similarly Peter Howell in the Toronto Star writes that Farrell is "absolutely fearless about playing the fool, which he does with no shame or apparent forethought. His enthusiasm is infectious, and it's why parts of the patchy Talladega Nights are very funny." Lisa Kennedy in the Denver Post even calls the movie, "tantalizingly clever." But like several other critics, Kennedy writes that the movie simply doesn't provide enough funny scenes. "Even some very funny scenes, such as one in which Ricky says a prayer before dinner, roll on longer than the Daytona 500," Kyle Smith comments in the New York Post. Still no critic gives the film an out-and-out pan. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Kenneth Turan observes that it's "a bit of a mess, but it is a genial mess, and one that will make you laugh. Which is the whole idea."

From all the reviews I've been looking at, this looks like Anchorman on Wheels.

I'll probably like it, then after a few DVD viewings love it.

You can. You probably stand a better chance of hitting it than I do.

I've got a buddy who's wife put on a lot of weight since they've been married. He's playing in the big-league now.

So Abomb and I watched this after each having two Sojo vodka shots and a 32 ounce Kiran.

The movie was hilarious, some slow parts, but has tons of quotable lines. John C. Reilly was fantastic in this role. Mr. Cellophane rocked his scenes. Shake n Bake baby!

Gary Cole was awesome...fantastic role and I'm sure he had fun doing that one.

So many great lines...so many I forget what they all were. The outtakes had one of my faves though when Reilly said "studies show that 98% of us die at some time in our lives..." Awesome.

Ferrel and Sacha (Ali G fame) played off of each other so damn well it was scary; they need to do another movie together. One scene they are holding hands talking and Sacha is saying how holding hands isn't gay (he plays a gay driver) and says something like "This isn't sexual at all, the fact that I have an erection right now doesn't mean anything." Very good stuff and they play off each other improv-style so perfectly.

I'm buying this on DVD first week, and will nail all the lines like I have with Anchorman. It's not quite as good as Anchorman, but I've only seen Ricky Bobby once so far. I'm sure it will age very well.

The cast is AWESOME. Fantastic and great comedic timing.

Our theater was pretty packed...this thing is gonna make a lot of money.

The little red-headed boy, playing Ricky Bobby's son Texas Ranger (brother of Walker) was AWESOME! His delivery was priceless...such good delivery for such a young kid in his first role. His lines always had me laughing, especially after his grandma (Jane Lynch) threatened to "paint their back porch red." I think this kid is gonna get some roles in the near future.

I wanna go fast!!

Hilarious movie....loved it.

Awesome...I was hoping to see more people commenting on this one here.

I mean, it made 18 million on Friday alone...people saw it for sure...

I loved the movie...It has completely grown on me now and I can't wait to see it again. I might catch it at the Bell Road 3 dollar theater before it comes to DVD. Shake n bake, baby....

More hilarious was right before he said that, Abomb leans over and says...was that Mos Def??

Then the line...

Then hilarity ensued....

I liked it. I didn't think it was hilarious or anything, but it made me laugh. Worth the price of a matinee ticket.

John C. Reilly's lines about Jesus during the credits made me laugh the hardest.

agree totally. Not anywhere close to Anchorman. But pretty funny, especially in light of the relative drek comedies put out so far this summer.

My favorite Jesus is the one in the tuxedo t-shirt. Because, you show that you're important but you also say "hey, I like to party."

something like that...

It was pretty average (and I am a big Ferrel fan) but it did have its moments... I am glad I went during Matinee and did not pay the full $10...

Shake and Bake!
