This was the epitomy of a SURPRISING Season... The snakes were never supposed to be playing on October. And in fact, when you look at their paultry offense, it's all the more a miracle that they somehow won 90 games and won the West!!!

By the way - does anyone know if Melvin gave Drew the green-light last night on that 3-0 pitch?? My god was that just plain STUPID!!! Ended the game for sure...

Anyway, Co-Jack stays. Love Byrnes and he's a keeper as well... They do NOT need Willis!! Hopefully, Upton will continue to progress and increase his offensive stats next season. Actually, in order for the snakes to truly be consistently competitive, Upton's growth is imperative. Young will need to be much more consistent at the plate as well. A starting CF hitting sub-.260 is simply a huge no-no!
Steven Drew is so solid in the field, but like Upton and Young, will need to make some measurable gains at the plate.
Second base will be an interesting area for the snakes. I love O-dog and hope they find a way to keep him. If not, this could be where they make a trade...
IMO - they should not trade anyone for pitching! Any trade will need to be focused on bringing in more offense!!! More runs!!!

Fun year though! Thanks D-Backs!!!

While we're on the question of people are jumping on players, why is everyone jumping all over Byrnes? I've read a lot of blogs where people are all over him. Is this not the same guy who carried the offense through stretches? Is this not the same guy who stole 50 bases? Or how about hustling so hard he beats out routine plays to first base, like in the Cubs series. I swear I hate PHX fans sometimes. Everything is great until the team starts losing, and then the finger pointing begins, and suddenly the guys we have been supporting and praising all year become the goat. Ridiculous.

Say what you want about Byrnes' theatrics, but don't blame him for the DBacks losing this series. What the hell did Todd Helton do in this series that was so great? I doubt Rockies fans are pissed at him because they're still winning. Baseball isn't a one man sport, and all too often it's not even the stars on the team that make the huge impact in a baseball postseason series. The only thing Byrnes did was run his mouth a little, but that's how he is.

When you're the face of the franchise, like everyone claims Byrnes is, you're going to have a huge target on your back, and when you fail to deliver in pressure/big game situations the first one to get the hacksaw is you.

Secondly, although I love Byrnes' hustle, dedication and work ethic, he also tends to piss me off when he tries to make every play look like a superhuman effort defensively.

But do you blame Byrnes soley for the loss? No.. It was a collective team effort that sunk Arizona, and as much as I HATE to say this, Colorado deserves their due.

Sorry but when you make $10 million a year, claim you're the team leader, and say everyone should follow your example then you're going to have a target on your back when you fail to perform. And I never blamed Byrnes for losing the series, there is more than enough blame to go around when you score eight runs in 38 innings. This sweep was a team effort.
I wasn't really pointing at you specifically in regards to blaming Byrnes for losing the series. Sorry if it came off that way. I'm just surprised at the backlash he's received as a supposed fan favorite, and as an annointed team leader. He also took a lot of responsibility for the loss as well last night, saying that if you wanted to blame someone, you could blame him. A leader is willing to do that.

And nice hypocrisy by the way calling people out who are pointing their fingers at players. That's essentially all you have done on this board since yesterday when it comes to Conor Jackson.

I posted something about Conor Jackson? If I did, I don't remember. I was upset with him yesterday for the error, but I don't recall asking for his head. If I did, please show me.

Firstly, you can't go grouping ALL PHX fans like this, because there are factions. There are people who were very for the Byrnes signing and still are supportive of him, there are people who were very against the Byrnes signing and are very pissed about it still and taking it out on him, and then there are the completely myopic sports fans that make all of their comments and decisions based on the last game played.
If I had time to separate the good from the bad, I certainly would.

I have a hard time taking frustration out on Byrnes for signing a deal when the FO was willing to give him that deal. That's who I'd be more frustrated with if I were upset with the deal.

I'm still pissed we're paying for Shawn Green, Russ Ortiz, and for the new Randy contract. Byrnes' deal doesn't seem so bad when you look at that.

Why?

After the All Star Break, he was arguably one of Arizona's best hitters, his defense improved and his plate discipline reminded me of a grizzled veteran instead of a young kid making his first real strides in MLB.

D-Jay, would it be enough to say, "Because I hate him?"
