Don't confuse me with someone who endorses Meshuggah. I don't like them. I am only mentioning their math metal style showing up in spots on the new LOG album. Meshuggah takes a potentially complex timing style to their music and uses it in a formulaic manner. I think they overthink their metal. They are trying so hard to be complex that it becomes repetitive. Also, the singer is terrible. But, check them out and make up your own mind....

I meant thoughts on new LoG, not jumping on meshuggah. They were at a LoG or slayer show a while back, dont remember but I do remember alot of shuggah fans were children of bodom black metal types and im not into black metal.

There are new albums coming from Overkill, Accept and Testament all within two months, so I will be hitting Zia's to grab those. The last three albums from these three groups are still the best heavy metal albums I've heard in the last five years or so.

I will argue that Overkill is now the best thrash metal band in the business. Yes, better than any of the big 4 and I really like the newest Anthrax too.

The last 2 Testament albums (The Gathering in 1999 and Formations of Damnation in 2008) are quintessentially thrash metal classics. I only got *so much* into Overkill, not because they don't thrash but because of that odd pitch on Bobby Blitz's voice. They have some excellent runs of thrash, but the voice limits my ability to take them for too long. I think Necroshine (99) is the last one I have. What do you recommend since then?

Ironbound for sure. It's almost criminal a metal head like you isn't aware of it, but that how tough it is in the music business now.

So many outstanding songs on the album, but the title track is probably the best place to start.

ajcardfan, Don't know if you heard the bad news but Mark Reale guitarist & founding member of Riot passed away in San Antonio, Texas due to complications from Crohns disease.. 1955-2012

Yeah, I heard this on the radio. It's really sad. This band has had several tragedies. Almost like someone put a curse on them. They were always on the verge of breaking through then something would happen.

Well, I think the album "Immortal Soul" is a great album for his last one. Only a couple of the songs are a little weak, overall, the leads blister, the drumming is fantastic and vocals are strong. Was hoping they might tour behind this album because it's a great comeback album. I just can't imagine them touring without Reale though. He's been the one constant in the group. If they do tour, I'll go but it will be wierd. Like seeing Black Sabbath without Tony Iommi.

Damn! That's like a blueprint for thrash. They put Blitz a little bit further back in the mix, so his weird pitch isn't such a problem (for me). That breakdown in the middle of the song is overly pit-worthy. Good stuff. I'll pick this up the next time I'm at Zia's. See? Now this thread is back on track!!!
