I chose those games because they were semi-competetive teams, wouldn't be fair if I only watched him play rice, or some other horrible college team. He's a good QB for that system, they don't have a lot of difficult throws, and they utilize play action to get their WR's open pretty consistently. There's a reason why QB's from those type of systems don't adapt well to the NFL, and it's mainly because they're so used to reading their 1st WR, and then escaping the pocket if that option isn't open. The NFL will eat you alive if you can't read through your progressions, and a lot of those QB's from spread systems like Griffins, don't adapt well to Pro-Style offense where you sit in the pocket, and scan the entire field. I'm not saying Griffin can't become a Pro-QB, I'm just saying it's going to take a lot of coaching and time before he can step on an NFL field.

Well you are probably right because as I said in my last post Kolb has been in the NFL for four years + 10 games and he's still playing like he was in college.

...also see Freeman with the Buccaneers. Forget about the issue with size, Griffith will be a starting QB in the league and a very good one

This is at least the third thread I've tried to tell you this... it's

I am also of the mind that if Kalil is gone, we probably should trade back, but we haven't been great at that in the past.

I could stomach Martin as it fills a need at LT. I liked what I have seen, but his workouts might be the most telling. Some red flags...He has had the benefit of playing in a run system, and doesn't have to pass protect very often in games. Stanford runs a bunch of play action and big sets which limits the amount of speed rushers that he sees. Not many elite pass rushers in the Pac 12 this year, so has played against pretty weak competition. His QB gets rid of the ball quickly.

I wouldn't mind moving back and grabbing the OG from Stanford (DeCastro?) and then a RT (maybe kid from Oklahoma St.?) with the extra pick. It might not help the LT position specifically, but it fills two needs and improves our entire line.

Also not high on Reiff. Every time I watch an Iowa game, he seems to be on the ground after a majority of the plays.

Hey Cbus, I see what conference you watch.

One way to ensure we get Kalil is..........trade Fitz to Minnesota, who desperately need a WR but probably wouldn't want to risk picking Blackmon. Add in their 2nd round to boot.

Heracy to some, but in the business of football, it would be the right move. Fitz isn't getting us to a Super Bowl, we have too many holes to address. It would also free up a hell of alot of cap space to be super aggressive in FA.

We all know Fitz would like to play in Minnesota.

I know the thread has gone in the QB direction, but getting back to OT:

It's the deepest "elite" position in the draft

By draft day, I think that Kahlil, Reiff and Martin will all have very similar grades. None of them have the Levi Brown issue: feet a quarter second too slow to deal with guys who can turn the edge. All are super athletic for 6-6, 310 lb men. All of them carry the same general rep-- excellent pass protection, good enough run blocking.

At 5-10 draft spot, I would be happy with any of them.

Based on what? Because he was a ballboy & his dad lives there? If I'm not mistaken he had a chance to be free & signed with the Arizona Cardinals!!!

Yeah, that always works out well for us! Happy Thanksgiving :D

I think if we land in the Top 5, teams will be trying to trade up for Matt Barkley if he comes out. A team like KC would try and trade up realizing that Matt Cassel ain't the answer. If we could get back into the second round here is my Card's mock:

#1 - OT Jonathan Martin - Really hoping for Kahlil and if he somehow falls then I would take him over Martin but we really need a LT and Martin is the consensus #2 in this draft.

#2 - OLB Vinny Curry - Kid has prototypical size with the pass skills to match.

#3 - OT Matt Reynolds - BYU product, will be old rookie at 24 but really fills a need and ends Keith's tenure here in ARZ.

#4 - ILB Emmanuel Acho - Would look nice playing next to his brother.

#5 - WR DeVier Posey - Reminds me a lot of Santonio Holmes with big play ability. Will be solid #2 right away.

#6 - SS Eddie Pleasant - Oregon DB's always tend to do well in the pros, this guy

#7 - DE/DT Trevor Guyton - Pac-12 guy, got a steal with David Carter, adds depth to DL

If Fitz wanted to be in Minnesota he could be on his way in 4 months, but instead he resigned.

And I am not trading a sure fire hall of fame receiver in his prime for a freaking college left tackle who plays in a conference with no NFL level pass rushers.

Forget QB; the Cards will play out their investment.

Martin is a right tackle, not left, despite reports to the contrary.

I like Reiff a great deal. He’s very fast, very athletic and the surest thing likely available at the Cards’ slot. Oglesby cannot pass the physical. Reiff will take some serious coaching to start as a rookie on the left side.

I’m still not sure the Cards can pass on Zach Brown if he’s there. He is raw, but has rare athletic ability and reminds me of Ware. He easily would be the BPA. He has the potential to be a huge impact pass rusher.

There are some other decent lineman, though they don’t project well at LT. Figure the Cards would have to move up if they don’t get one in round one.

They won’t trade this pick.

It's Thanksgiving tomorrow and pretty much all the Cards fans have to look forward to is draft day 2012. Here's a first attempt for one:

Round 1: Jonathon Martin,OT Stanford: Kalil will likely be gone and the Cards will again settle for the 2nd best OT. However Martin seems much more polished the Levi was. Alt choice: RG III/Riley Reiff

Round 3: Ray-Ray Armstrong, SS Miami: they need a replacement for Wilson and Armstrong fits the bill. Another in a long line of good Hurricane safeties. He's probably the guy I want the most.

Round 4: Miles Burris, OLB SDST: can get after the QB and may rise up the draft boards throughout the process.

Round 5: DeVier Posey, WR Ohio State: he'd be a steal in round 5. He's probably a 2nd round talent but will only play 3 games this year because of suspension.

Round 6: Josh Oglesby, OT Wisconsin: the only thing keeping him from being drafted in the first two rounds is injury. He's had 6 knee operations but he is very talented and played RT for the Badgers(I'll take Wisky OL all day). He was the #1 OT in the country coming out of high school. He's big and athletic, if healthy could be a day 1 starter.

Round 7: Nathan Williams, OLB Ohio State: another injury risk. Healthy he could be a Chad Greenway type and can rush the passer. Great work ethic and has a non-stop motor but he can't stay on the field.

there's another conditional pick, I just don't know what round it falls.

Everyone you have after the first rounder will mtl go a round earlier. Throw out Ray-Ray and there you have your draft. ;)

My Thanksgiving mock:

Round 1: Turkey. Can't miss prospect, sure to be 1st overall pick.

Round 2: Mashed potatoes and gravy. We got our franchise entree in the 1st round, now to add the perfect complement.

Round 3: Ham w/ pineapple. Slides down the rankings a bit due to being a little unconventional. Great mid round steal.

Round 4: Homemade mac & cheese. Not a sexy pick but adds to the belly of the team.

Round 5: Green bean casserole. Feed the bean!

Round 6: Pumpkin pie. Terrific special teams player.

Round 7: Watching Thanksgiving day football games. The only action physically possible after rounds 1-6.

Mashed potatoes and gravy would probably do more than some of the second round picks they've made in the last few years.

Nathan Williams will not be in this draft. He's coming off microfracture surgery and in no way will be ready to workout for scouts.. He was a marginal pro prospect to begin with, likely falling in the 5th-7th range. Coming off that type of surgery, combined with not being able to workout will result in him taking the medical redshirt and trying to play next season at OSU
