Mr. Stanton has many of the attributes of of a pro caliber QB. Size, strength, intelligence, mobility, and a strong arm.
What he seems to lack is the unteachable trait of subconcious judgement that comes in that one millsecond between the decision to throw and how hard to throw it. He seems to have only one pitch, the fastball.
Just as in golf, hours of practice can produce a great drive off the practice tee but when you're looking down the fairway with three friends watching disaster strikes. Much has been written about it in sports psychology. It is a tough trait to shake and sometimes the best way to address it is to take some time off to allow your mind to reset.
Unfortunatley we dont have that luxury. So what's the fix? The obvious answer would be a competent running game in order to take the pressure off off Mr. Stanton. The next question would be is management willing to do what it takes to get us there. And that involves Mr. Blount. I don't see that happening as the organization has always taken the high road when it comes to a players persona. Where does that leave us? I look forward to your thoughts.

Blount was signed by NE. We can't establish a running game when nobody respects our passing game. Teams are daring Stanton to beat them and he can't.

I believe it was a two year deal as well.

Stanton's first few games with us, I was impressed by his ability to "feel" pressure and avoid it.. That bomb he launched when Palmer went out.. Everything about that play was textbook.. Dropped back.. made a few reads, felt pressure..stepped up and threw a strike.

More times than not he stares down his first read so long and hard, that there is typically 4-5 defenders within arms reach of the ball, They've seen the tape.. Follow his eyes to the first read, then flock to that area.. Because there is VERY high probability that's where the ball is going.

I see good attributes in Stanton, but his tendency to go to his first read is killing him.

I think it's like a lot of backups - you can handle the load for a few plays, or even a few games, but to keep up with changing gameplans, changing defenses and the week to week grind starts to take it's toll. Like a backup RB who looks great with 8 carries a game, but terrible at 20 carries.

I totally agree. If he would learn not to stare down his first read, it would make a world of difference. He needs to look around the field and not stick with his first read.

Looks like I'm way behind on things. I missed that Blount was picked up.

Way behind! He has played 2 games with them already and his first game was a big one for him.

The wheels are falling off his game. He has to be more accurate with the ball and make better decisions.

I said last year that Palmer wasn't good enough to bet the franchise on that we'd need another QB we could win with. A 21 point a game QB on this team would win 11 or 12 games. Our defense would carry us.

Too many injuries and not enough talent at QB equals our campion ship dreams are done. Don't repeat this next year. The Qbotf needs to be on this team even if Palmer starts next year.
