To me it comes down to leadership and the ability to inspire confidence in others.

Josh Rosen is a gifted passer---but he reminds me too much of Jay Cutler. Check out this video and ask yourself does Rosen look and sound like a leader?

Baker Mayfield doesn't have ideal size, but he's a fiery competitor and a very accurate passer. He reminds me of a cross between Drew Brees and Dak Prescott. Here is Baker Mayfield' press conference following their tough loss to Iowa St.

Lamar Jackson is the most electric player, imo, in the upcoming draft. Check out how handled himself after a tough loss to NC St.

Sam Darnold is the strongest pocket passer in this draft, imo. He reminds me some of Carson Palmer, both in his pocket passing ability and in the way he handles the media. Here's how he reacted to the loss to WSU.

Based on the way they comport themselves, my favorites of these 4 are:

1. Mayfield---man, he nailed this interview---talked about how great teams have to have a killer instinct---talked about how and why it was getting more difficult to pass versus Iowa St.'s defense---keenly focused on the details.
2. Jackson---loved the way he turned the question about his individual milestones into talking about the goals of the team. Very likable young man. Needs to slow down, but his heart and mind are in the right place.
3. Darnold---very Palmer-esque in this interview---gave credit to other team, talked about how to improve. Shows maturity.
4. Rosen---he struck me as very immature, snippy, clueless---very Cam Newton-esque.

I like any of the top 3. I would not go for Rosen at this point because of his caustic personality.

I think Mayfield may end up the best of that bunch.

Rosen might just be the new jeff george...without the howitzer

Mayfield was like watching a BA interview...same buzzwords and philosophies...I.E. it dont matter what the other team does we have to just do what we do...

Jackson has a level demeanor and a good football mind but needs a bit more coaching on handling the media

Your right Mitch,...Darnold is very Palmer-esque .... maybe they train them that way at USC?...or maybe he learns it from Palmers brother?

Based purely on these interviews and what I have seen on saturdays....I wouldnt draft Rosen.... Darnold has been my favorite but from this it looks like Mayfield is a bit more mature than Darnold or Jackson... not light years, but a bit...

but I must say...Mayfield reminds me more of Doug Flutie than any QB playing today

Give me the guy with talent who is considered a leader by teammates.

Couldn't care less whether he wins a popularity contest among fans.

Josh Rosen is a guy you have to sit behind a Veteran for at least 1 year, that is it. He could be Rodgers he could be Cutler or he could be Derek Anderson.

Lamar Jackson needs communication training, but else, it was a bit Larryesque for me (if we don't compare it to QB only) very lean on details and on how he was the fault and so on. Very likable. Maybe he didn't get all that training that Darnold and others get, but he sounds like a guy that afte playing on saturday goes home and reviews the game and goes on to train even harder.

Baker Mayfield is great in communication, but from hearing what he told and reviewing the game, or his headchoach is garbage (and I don't tthink he is) or Mayfield understands what happens on the field but can't get a clue or how to exploit it out of it. To me it sounds as like the HC told him (guy you have to throw fast or scramble) and it didn't hit him how his coach meant it. That for me is a maybe ... red flag. Not sure if it was like that, but from the interview and the game, that sounds like it, that would mean you need someone that gets him the message or he needs time to see new things on the field. And I give oaken1 some credit, after rewatching it, the answer is really very BA.

Darnold is Palmeresque from looking to speaking. Maybe he is great but, USC QB tend to win nothing. He is that kind of guy that maybe has a good floor but the ceiling isn't too high, so to speak. He is a good prospect but I'm not sure he has it in him to work hard enough.

For BA it would be Darnold > Mayfield > Rosen > Jackson

I would draft Jackson > Mayfield > Darnold > Rosen

I still hesitate in taking Baker Mayfield in round 1, but I feel that his skill set is similar to Dak, Russ, and Watson in relation to being able to move around to buy time, and deliver the ball down the field.

I struggle with Mayfield's size as I believe he is under 6'0 and thin. It was an issue I had with Manziel. I have the same concern for his arm strength, though I believe his arm is of similar caliber to Daks.

I don’t recall Aaron Rogers being the best interview when he was at Cal and he turned out ok. Rosen has a bunch of talent to work with.
Yea, as long as you don’t come off a full blown jackass like Ryan Leaf did, then it doesn’t matter to me if you don’t come off as the best interviewer ever.

Rosen and UCLA had just been hit by a train named KHALIL TATE so I have to give him benefit of the doubt. I don't think UCLA was prepared offensively or defensively for that game at all, and I would be pissed too.

My order would be:

Darnold
Mayfield
Jackson
Rosen

But I think you have winners with all of them.

We need to add Josh Allen, Wyoming to the mix. Many of the football draft analysts have him in the first round. He has the size and arm that BA really likes.

In a van...down by the river.
Evaluating college QB's transition to the NFL is so difficult any more.
A quote from Mike Martz:
"The best competitor on the field has got to be your QB. By far he's got to be your top notch competitor."

Obviously there are physical and mental traits that separate the men from the boys in the eval process. Size, arm strength, intelligence etc, but i do believe that Martz was correct. That refuse to lose competitive fire, that drive to become the best player on the field is incredibly important.

Whoever the QB might be, this is the year to take the plunge and get a top prospect in the draft.

The draft order as of now and if they're likely to draft a top QB prospect.

Cleveland - yes
San Fran - no
NY Giants - it's possible, but I'm not sure they'd use a top 10 pick for a QB this year unless they cut Manning.
Indy - no, not with Luck and Brissett
Tampa - no
NY Jets - yes
Oakland - no
LA Chargers - similar to the Giants, probably not unless Rivers goes.
Chicago - no
Arizona - yes
Denver - maybe; depends on how Siemian does this season.
Cleveland - yes
Detroit - no
Washington - yes
Baltimore - no
Dallas - no
Tennessee - no
Atlanta - no
Green Bay - no

The Cards are currently at the #10 spot and I could see them ending up in the 5-10 range. Based on the guesstimate above, they're competing against Cleveland, NY Jets and Washington with the Giants and Chargers being wild cards.

A swap of #1's is the obvious starting point, but from there the Cards need to make a package to move up and get one of these QB's. Assuming they don't bomb at the combine.

Actually Chopper I think Mayfield's arm is stronger than most here think it is. His release & delivery is quick, compact & effortless.

Go watch the Texas game from this year on YouTube. He makes many NFL throws & a perfectly thrown 60 yard laser for the 1st TD of the game. I don't know how much you have seen of him but he's got plenty of arm IMO. Watch Bedlam this Saturday night & im sure you will be impressed with those parts of his game, unless I jinx him lol

I think he's right at 6'1" as well & his frame IMO doesn't appear to be thin or skinny. He's built way better than stick man Lamar Jackson lol

I agree with adding Allen. But BA may be gone at this rate

My biggest fear is ARZ misses out on both Jackson and Mayfield with Keim either not having a pulse on teams potentially maneuvering around ARZ to get these guys leaving ARZ on the outside looking in or Keim trying to get cute and think he can get these guys even after moving down trying to collect more picks and again miscalculating on other team's interest in these two.

Trade Drew Stanton and a 3rd RD pick this year and a 4TH next yr.
To Colts for Brissett.
Now you have the QBOF with experience ready to step in a help the team win games.
Cut sign and draft OL and the Cards can be playoff ready in 2 years.
Able to contend for the next 5 to 7 years with a young team.

It's not about winning games, it's about winning Super Bowls!!! Do you really believe he's got that kind of abilities? Come on now let's be real here :doi:

The difference is Flutie had class, Mayfield is self absorbed.....

Why in the world would the Colts want Stanton? You couldn't give this guy away much less use him as trade bait. Lmao

I'm 6 foot and he's shorter than me by a little bit, he's also got a beer gut. He's not skinny....
