It doesn't look like the Suns will be signing any more players other than a few more bench warmers to fill out the roster. It does appear that regardless of who starts, the Suns will have one of the cheapest, if not least potent, starting units in all of NBA.

There are several potential staring lineups the Suns could feature at the start of season. With Dragic and Gortat already likely penciled-in, the remaining decisions appear to be:

SG: Brown or Dudley
SF: Dudley or Beasley
PF: Beasley or Scola or Frye

So the choices are:

Dragic-Brown-Dudley-Beasley-Gortat
Dragic-Brown-Dudley-Scola-Gortat
Dragic-Brown-Dudley-Frye-Gortat
Dragic-Brown-Beasley-Scola-Gortat
Dragic-Brown-Beasley-Frye-Gortat
Dragic-Dudley-Beasley-Scola-Gortat
Dragic-Dudley-Beasley-Frye-Gortat

Frye may not be 100% ready to start the season, so depending on when he's available, that could narrow some of those possibilities.

I doubt Beasley is coming off the bench and there is a remote chance that Morris fits into the starting pf talk.

The first group you have there will probably see a lot of time together but the fourth option will be the consensus choice

I could see Dudley playing the sixth man role and being the first one off the bench. He would replace Scola and Beasley would slide to the four

Is there a worse line up in the west, or the league for that matter. There isn't even a second tier star on the roster. The suns better do their draft homework.

should be interesting....

Brown and Dudley won't be starting together with the lack of depth we have at the 2. And he's the only pure shooting guard we have on this roster. While Dudley can play the position in a pinch, he's not as efficient as when he plays SF.

But don't sleep on Keef. He may become a starter by season's end.

It's possible, that's why I framed the question with regards to the start of season. I don't think Morris will get the starting nod right away, not as long as there's Scola and Frye ahead of him. But half of these players could be on other teams by the end of season.

Personally, I think Gentry will start Dudley at SG initially with Brown coming off the bench.

It will be Dragic-Brown-Dudley-Scola-Gortat. Frye is hurt, so he's out. It will be Dudley over Beasley because Dudley is now the second-longest-tenured Suns player (behind Lopez!) and the Suns will take their time figuring out what they have with Beasley. It won't be Dudley/Beasley at the wings because that would have the Suns playing half a position large, instead of half a position small, and we know that won't happen.

Dragic-Dudley-Beasley-Morris-Gortat

That should be the lineup

I agree as well. Scola should anchor the 2nd unit and give Marshall a veteran presence in the post.

It will probably be Goran-Dudley-Beasley-Scola-Gortat to start the season tho.

I don't feel that our line-up is as bad as some people. If Houston finishes .500 with Goran-Martin-Buddinger-Scola-Dalembert, then I think it's certainly possible that we can too.

I tend to agree. Maybe Scola over Morris early, but I doubt it. If you are building for the future Morris has to be developed.

In this lineup Dudley is the dirtworker and opportunistic scorer. Beasley is the primary scorer and Dragic should be more of a scorer than Nash was last year.

I am having difficulty seeing where Frye works into the regular rotation this year if we sign Lopez.

I'm just point out that the question asks, "What will (not should) be the Suns primary starting lineup at the start of the season."

I have not settled on a starting lineup but I definitely feel Dudley would help the Suns the most coming off the bench.

Also is the Suns' primary goal is to win or put the best team on the floor looking towards the future? If the latter, I can see the Suns starting Dragic (no way Marshall is ready to play), Brown, Beasley, Gortat and Morris. That is not the best starting lineup.

As I see it through Gentry's eyes it will be Dragic, Dudley, Beasley, Scola and Gortat. I think Gentry wins.

The only question to me is whether Brown or Dudley starts at SG, I think it's pretty much set at the other positions barring injury.

Just to be clear, I voted for Gentry.

It's a given that Gentry has Duds in the starting line-up and I'm fairly certain Beasley will be in there for his scoring.

Dragic, Dudley, Beasley, Scola, Gortat. Brown will be the first swing off the bench and Frye will be the first big off the bench. The acquisition of Scola throws the rotation off a bit. Beasley will see less time at the 4 and Dudley less at the 3 as a result. Without Scola, we'd see Dragic, Brown, Dudley, Beasley, and Gortat starting considering Frye is likely not going to be ready to start the season.

I'm partial to Dragic, Brown, Beasley, Scola, and Gortat. I also am interested in seeing a Dragic, Brown, Dudley, Beasley, and Frye line-up at times to push the tempo and space the floor (and get killed on the glass).

Morris will be the first big off the bench. It'll likely be a double sub with Brown and Morris coming in for Dudley and Scola. I'm not sure when Frye's going to be ready to play, but I feel like he should be back up Center like he was in 2010.

It is?
I voted...

Dragic
Brown
Beasley
Scola
Gortat

2nd unit...

Marshall
Dudley/Dragic
Dudley/Warrick
Morris/Frye
Frye/Lopez

Duds gets starter minutes off the bench in multiple positions and(hopefully) they lean on Morris to score off the bench as well. Dragic will play alot at the 2guard IMO.

Gentry is loyal. He kept a hobbled, under-performing Hill as starter throughout last season. He also took forever (45 games) to replace Lopez with Gortat in the starting line-up even though Gortat was obviously outplaying him.

Grant started because he was still the teams best defender and previous attempts to bring him off the bench were unsuccessful. I also don't what the reasoning was for not starting Gortat earlier, but I doubt it had to do with loyalty either. Gortat was soon playing more minutes and the situation reminded me more of him starting Jarron Collins over Frye in the Suns playoff run in 2010.

Logistically, continuing to start Lopez at Center caused problems, because once Gortat came in at about the 6-minute mark of the 1st and 3rd quarters, he played the rest of each half.

It wore him down. He was playing about 18 consecutive minutes each half vs. opponents who were playing about 12. It precluded Marcin from being at his best, game in and game out.

I like that Gentry had the Suns playing over their heads all season, but not that particular move. You try to get the most out of Lopez, but not at the expense of Gortat.

i see its DragicDudleyBeaseleyScolaGortat over DragicBrownBeaseleyScolaGortat.

dragic-brown-beaseley-scola-gortat is the best lineup for both the starters and bench.

simple as this, brown is better starting and dudley is better off the bench as well.

Dudley started almost every game last year, he isnt going to lose his starting job because we brought Brown back.
