Carmelo Anthony is my least favorite player. He is basically a more headstrong TJ Warren with a poo attitude. He scores yes, but he is a douche canoe who does little else.

I thought that the Lakers were supposed to stop with the roasting...

I thought this was interesting:

https://www.eurohoops.net/en/nba-ne...unmpo-drafting-kostas-is-legalized-tampering/

David Griffin calls the Kostas pick "legalized tampering". Not bad if you can get Doncic and set the seeds for Greek Freak in the same draft.

Giannis will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2020-21 season, and the Mavericks could be trying to add them to their roster as former Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin said on NBATV.

“They are going to want to be a player in free agency when Giannis Antetokounmpo is available because drafting Kostas is all about legalized tampering. You are going to have his brother going home and telling Giannis all the time how amazing of organization this is. I promise you that was not an accident and I would be stunned if he would go away.”

And of course we know as Suns fans that NEVER backfires on you.

Better odds that Kostas never gets to play and is cut within a year and in 2021 Giannis looks at Dallas and thinks "That's the team that never gave my brother a chance!"

I think perhaps the most likely scenario is they do keep him around and develop him in the hopes that it works out in 2021, which it likely won't, only to realize they essentially wasted a roster spot for three years. So I guess it's basically buying a lottery ticket, which looks really stupid unless you miraculously win the lottery.

I don't quite understand that unless they'd risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent if they let him play another year. If that's the case, ok, it makes sense, but I don't see why they would look to pay him sooner than later. That's typically what makes teams like Denver sort of stew in mediocrity. Glad it's not us.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jokic, but declining to pay him $1.4 million to offer max money has to mean there is some sort of reason behind it where they risk losing him somehow.

Wouldn't it basically be the same thing if we give Booker the max this year? It is simply avoiding letting your star player taste free agency.

They would risk losing him. I just read that declining next years option is the only way they restrict him.

Different from booker situation.

They're declining his salary for this coming season, Booker's making the same next year regardless of signing an extension. Jokic was set to make $1.4 for next season but they declined that to up his contract immediately. As Ouchie said above though, apparently that's the only way they'll have him as a restricted free agent. Booker's deal is different, he'll be a restricted free agent next summer if he doesn't sign an extension now, but his salary next season doesn't change. The cap hit stays the same for the coming season with Booker whether he signs an extension or not while Jokic is set to make close to $30 million next year which will count against the Nuggets books right away, giving them no cap space to use this offseason.

I think the situations are slightly different though. Booker will be a RFA after this coming season whereas Jokic should be a free agent after this coming season if the Nuggets decline his option. So I'm not fully understanding it.

I think the difference is Jokic was a 2nd round draft pick and this coming season is his 4th year. Booker is on a 5 year contract.

Here are how the contracts look:

I'm glad we got Bledsoe off our roster. Dude's career is falling of a cliff.

I know Jokic and Booker have far different situations, but both moves would be about avoiding the player experiencing free agency. If they pick up Jokic's option this year than he is unrestricted next year and Booker would be restricted next year if we don't sign him to an extension. However both situations more or less achieve the same thing by avoiding the player going into free agency. If anything Jokic's situation warrants early action even more so than Booker and most of us want Booker to be extended this year.

Also extending Booker now protects him should he have an injury.

Of course. I was just focusing on how it helps the team. For the team it would also be beneficial in a way to sign him next year after signing other big name free agents because we could go over the cap with his contract.

He’s just not as good as he, some people on this board, and many pundits thought he was.
