You're ok with what Kevin Love did but not Davis? They did the same thing. Davis said he wasn't signing an extension with New Orleans so he'd like to be moved. Love said he wasn't signing an extension in Minnesota and they moved him. The next step after saying they won't resign is trading them, whether they publicly make that request or not.
Love did not ask to be moved. He just let the team know his plans ahead of time. There is a difference.

I don't think anyone thought he was untouchable because of what happened to his sister, it was mainly how they shipped him out before he even recovered from his injury. Also that his injury was misdiagnosed and surgery was delayed so he could play was a bit of an issue as well. Had he had the surgery and rested up they wouldn't have had a deep playoff run that year but then they probably wouldn't make the Kyrie trade either. Instead they hid his medicals, downplaying what the problem was and sent him packing for a PG that was arguably at a similar level as him. Kyrie was younger but IT came off a season where he was a legit MVP candidate and then after he recruited Hayward they sent him packing for Kyrie, and the Cavs were a rival of sorts for Boston at that time.

Who knows, maybe Kyrie bolts and they can replace him with IT on a cheap deal? That would be interesting and I wouldn't put it past Ainge to try if Kyrie really does leave. I think next summer will be another difficult period for IT because he still hasn't returned to action but he shut things down in March last year to have surgery on his hip, finally, after being dealt to the Lakers by the Cavs. Now he's just sort of waiting to heal to join Denver's rotation and prove he's worth more than a minimum contract. If he ends up playing for the league minimum again the Suns better try to sign him. I know he shouldn't be option #1 but if we strike out on a number of players and IT is still out there then we need to bring him to man the Point for a year. He's not ideal but he is a legit NBA PG and is better than what we have.

If Kyrie leaves they’ll still have Tatum and Brown who are 22 or younger. They have a bundle of picks and some decent role players. Robert Williams is a nice prospect who has 14 less blocks than Ayton in 1,200 less minutes. The Hayward injury really killed them because they’d be winning the east in b2b years and Kyrie would probably be staying.

Lakers offer Kuzma, Ball, Beasley, Rondo, and a pick for AD. That is a trash offer.

That is basically Kuzma and Ball and a marginal pick for AD. Yuck.

Kuzma is a nice young player, but not THAT good.
Ball is a pg who is getting 5 assists and shooting under 50% from the free throw line. At this point, he is a liability.
Beasley and Rondo are nothing. Just trade fodder.

That package might get the Jrue, but not AD.

This is the same lowball tactic they used when everyone knew Paul George wanted to be a Laker. Guessing they will get better rental offers from other teams. I can see the Raptors going all in for him before the deadline, getting AD and Kawhi teamed up for a potentially deep playoff push could be enough to get them both to resign.

Davis said he won't sign an extension and he wants to play for a competitive team and that's what Love did. Here's Davis saying he won't sign an extension with the Pelicans...

https://wjla.com/sports/content/report-anthony-davis-tells-pelicans-he-wont-sign-extension

And here is more on Love asking for a trade...

https://dunkingwithwolves.com/2017/...imberwolves-a-huge-favor-by-asking-for-trade/

And more on the Love trade request

https://zonecoverage.com/2018/timberwolves/a-look-back-on-the-kevin-love-andrew-wiggins-trade/

They did the same thing. Asking for a trade after saying you won't resign is pretty standard. Kawhi said he wasn't going to resign in San Antonio also. That's just part of the whole situation. If a player specifically asks for a trade then the NBA will fine them, like they did with Davis, but saying they won't sign an extension is how they sidestep that in public. The league can't fine a player for saying that but it's essentially saying the same thing as "I want to be traded".

I would really like seeing AD going to the Raptors. Its about time some of the power spread to the Eastern Conference.

I keep hearing the players talk about how they are trying to control their own destinies, but what about the fans? You know...the people who actually pay with their hard earned money.

The owners don't get screwed. It's the fans who take the hot.

If the fans keep putting up with it, then nothing is going to change

Yeah this falls in the category of, “I’d rather set my house on fire than sell it to you for that price. “

Newsflash: the players don’t give a crap about the fans. We are fungible. Move from one team to the next, lose a lot of faceless fans, gain an equal amount of equally faceless fans. Think booker cares if you or krangthehornetsbrain cheers for him? Not these days.

Sure they don't care about the fans on an individual level, but they sure as hell want their own fans to be cheering them on. I don't know that it has ever been any different than this. It's just now players know that they can essentially get whatever they want if they just go public with their displeasure, but in the past before social media teams didn't have the same kind of pressure to trade a disgruntled player because it wasn't as highlighted. Also players know that speaking up works now so they are doing it more often.

Any offer for Davis must start with Kuzma, Ingram, Ball and Zubac. Then the Pelicans can counter with how many 1st rd picks need to be added and protections and such.

Sounds right but since Zubac is a free agent after the season I'd ask for Josh Hart instead.

So Beasley, Stevenson and Javale McGee needed to be restrained from Coach Luke Walton?

Who the F are Stevenson, Beasley and McGee to be in any coaches face. Career bone heads now playing with Lebron everybody thinks they are more important than they are.

This is crazy. It couldn't happen to a better team.

At some point when a team adds too many bone heads it starts to fall apart.

How many years now have the Lakers been trying of get out their own way?

The league, ESPN, the print media..... all want Showtime to return. Players want to play for the Lakers in LA and somehow they just can't get it right.

Karma?

Are you kidding, the league, ESPN, talking heads have been anti Lakers for years...players may want to play in LA, but the collusive owners and league office don’t.

I can’t help but think that Sarver has stories like this as well which will come out some day.
