It did. I figured why not for the playoffs. Plus I am sick of my old one.
I like it!

I am mixed on the idea. I mean I get it. Usually, the bottom two teams are interchangeable with many teams with similar records by end of season. Teams have injuries and things like that through the season that play into vying for the last couple spots. I think the idea is that the play in allows for that possibility and likely ensures that the best teams around those spots are the ones actually making the playoffs. The idea is to make the playoffs overall more competitive instead of the last couple seeds typically being doormats.Man I love the NBA, but I'm just going to say it. The play in tournament is the worst idea to come down the sports pike in the last 25 years. It's very likely to play out exactly as it was supposed to, and here you make the 7 and 8 seeds in each conference play for a spot they already earned. Just a waste of the post season hype IMO. Give the teams 4-5 days off after the end of the regular season, and get it on already. If you weren't good enough to get a spot from 1-8 (after 82 whole games at that!) then you shouldn't be playing post season basketball. I'm sure this opinion is unpopular, especially with teams of the fans who got a shot, but it just irks me to no end as to why the league felt this necessary.

Covert, I hear you, but why make a team play an EXTRA game or two risking injury, when they've already toughed it out through 82 games, scraped and clawed to earn a spot. It just feels like making those natural 7 and 8 seeded teams dance for their food.I am mixed on the idea. I mean I get it. The format is kind of weird though.
And it's good for the fans of the teams involved, I do get that. But I will be completely honest that if it were my Sixers, I'd be happy we're playing but at the same time feeling upset that we got a hand out by the league. If you weren't good enough, you weren't good enough. The Hornets proved that yesterday. Yaaaay, they played an extra game and were dog walked. It only served as a reminder that they have work to do in a big way, and not fall for the okee-doke that they are actually worthy of the post season.I'm not a fan of the play-in either but it does give a team like the Pelicans an opportunity to join the playoffs. They are a much different team after trading for CJ McCollum. However, I'm sure that's fair to the other teams that earned it over the course of a season.

Lakers tried it with nash to back in day with kobe rip goat mamba... or what 1 yr to didnt pan out well lolMan, the Lakers could have had a quality young team if they had been patient.
Interesting! LOL!!How about the play-in teams in the West play the play-in teams in the East to spice it up?
I'm not sure how the match-ups would work in the play-in and then what if one conference has all the winners.
That was the lie they told at the beginning, I think it's nothing more than a search for more money. And I suspect it's working since Silver said it's here to stay. It's the same reason he will eventually get his way with a mid-season tournament.I think the play-ins are designed to reduce tanking.
Joker makes me nervous. i know they're down players but the Warriors can't cover that guy.
But I hope we get to the WCF's that would be awesome.

Tournament/playoff type games are big business for the NBA, the Networks and their gambling partners. Between those changes and the ever increasing blackout frequency, I'm really wondering how much longer I'll remain a basketball fan.
Until Silver I rarely faced an NBA blackout, now it happens with regularity and not just to those of us in the So Cal market. I always get the game eventually but it shouldn't be blacked out in the first place. The NBA depends heavily on the TV market, us fans should have a lot more power in this than we do.I'm not effected by blackouts but I know what you mean. However, I can see where Silver is coming from looking at revenue. See link below.
IMO, professional basketball has the most income potential because it is played worldwide. I guess the same could be said for soccer or maybe ice hockey.

Yeah the former Pac Commissioner's name should be treated like a swear word - get your head out of you larryscott or something like that. He couldn't have done any more damage to the Pac-12 even if that had been his only goal.I feel much the same about PAC-12 games.

Well, the kind of NBA blackouts I'm talking about are fairly new, they were pretty much done away with a few decades ago. And they seem to be on the increase. I think Silver sold that out as part of the TV package and will likely do so again on this next one.The blackout stuff will come to an end. The way people take in content has change dramatically since these contracts were signed. They’ll adjust once they are ip
The play in is awesome everybody I know loves watching these games. I know that Wolves/Clippers game was super fun

Everybody keeps telling me this but it hasn't worked this way. I'm waiting for some stability in the streaming market.
When were those cable TV contracts signed? The rise of Hulu/amazon streaming in the past 2 years will def have to be accounted for in this next contract negotiation.
