I think I am finally figuring out Armstrong‘s drafting preferences… TALL.

Our scouts must be fans of The Athletics Corey Pronman. Pretty much everyone had our picks ranked in the 20-35 range, except Pronman who had them #9 and #10 on his board.

You had me on the number six pick with the words Russian, and Defenseman!

Both have size! The guy at number six is supposed to have wicked skate skills for a defenseman!

We drafted size, that’s for sure. But time will tell if we took the wrong Russian with our first pick.

They picked Simashev because this was a talent rich forward draft and there were only two difference-making defenseman. So I don't have a problem with that.

I don't know if Michkov's contract status was worth the risk to select him at 6.

Danil But has size and he is deceptively agile. He's not going to overwhelm people with his skating ability but in front of the net he does have a knack for goal scoring and can snipe from far out.

It's clear that GMBA wanted to get bigger and stronger.

I'm not overwhelmed with the draft as I was hoping that they could get a splash player but the more I think about this the more it makes sense as we just landed hopefully two solid workhorses.

Shimashev's skating is amazing for a big man. He really bends and uses those hips and knees. Very fluid!

Interesting part of the article:
“When the Montréal Canadiens chose Austrian defenseman David Reinbacher with the fifth overall pick, talented SKA Saint Petersburg forward Matvei Michkov was available for the taking. The problem for the Coyotes was that after meeting with Michkov before the draft, they came away with the distinct impression that he wanted no part of the franchise.”

I had a feeling the reason we left him there was going to be something like this. As much as it pisses me off as a fan, can anyone really blame him or his representation for feeling this way about the org?
