They are going to take another run with Durant but when this likely doesn't work? I fully endorse trading Booker while he still has maximum value. He isn't a #1 and we could get started earlier in the process.
Agreed. Firesale if/when this year goes bust.

We can't blow it up entirely, it's simply not an option without controlling our picks. Even in the years we do have a pick, they're leveraged so much through swaps that we probably won't draft higher than the 20s for the next 7 years, even if we're the worst team in the league year after year.

Dump Durant and Nurk for whatever you can get, try to build a more cohesive roster. We almost certainly won't be a contender but we won't be a contender either way for a long time.

you keep saying this, but that only delays the inevitable even further. Building around Booker and scraps will keep us at 30-40 wins at most, which is completely pointless. Trading high on Booker to stockpile picks for the future (make some of the picks convey in years we don't have them and then some picks convey in 2031 and 2033). At least that gives us somewhat of a future to start building on in 2030. Watching/wasting the prime of Booker's career on 30-45 win seasons is cutting off the team's nose to spite it's face, that will leave us with nothing to show for the next five years once he's past his prime and his value drops.

Disagree. We’re voluntarily becoming the worst team in the league for the better part of the decade in and only real benefactors will be the teams who own our picks.

Good points, run with what we got.

We actually won’t know much until we see what we get out of the big 3 under better coaching.

Much better to be the 23rd worst team in the league for five years AND not come out of it with a stockpile of picks to start rebuilding once Book’s prime is done.

Again, if we say traded Book for four firsts after next year, starting in the ‘27 draft, we’d be looking at getting two picks during the stretch we’d have none AND two more picks once we gain control back, to go with whatever picks we have then. Doing nothing pro-active to scratch out 30-45 wins and coming out of Devin’s prime with nothing to show for it in the past or future just makes zero sense to me.

It will also avoid the possible ugliness of Booker demanding to be traded once this team is officially in 8-14 seed purgatory, which could happen. After all, you blame his malaise this season on KD’s influence. What makes you think he doesn’t continue to follow KD’s footsteps once KD’s gone and his situation with the Suns is even more bleak than it is now?

Smart teams should always be looking five years into the future, especially when the present looks so bleak.

Except first thing you do when you get rid of Booker is look for a star to help build around. So you are a step behind right from the start when you trade Booker.

If we trade Booker in a year we will be.

A bunch of min salary guys and some picks a couple picks in the 20s every 2 years will add up to a team that wins under 20 games a season.

Sure, at some point they should have free agent money, but the roster will be in worse shape than when we had to overpay for guys like Trevor Ariza. No one will want to be here.

Who is this generation's Michael Beasley? I'd imagine we can cast TJ McConnell in the Goran Dragic role. Miles Bridges might fit that Beasley role, albeit a different manner of bonehead.

If they trade Booker, they’d likely have space for two max contracts by the late 2020s, with a bunch of draft picks to come to booster those guys.

There’s just no difference to me in being the worst team in the league and the 23rd worst team in the league.

I know Booker’s one of your favorite players and you have season tickets so you really don’t want to watch a wasteland club for that stretch (and I don’t blame you), but if you’re actually thinking and planning for a future where this team ever wins a title or even contends again, thats going to be when he’s way past his prime. And if he’s still here at that point, his contract will probably be so bloated for a guy on the wrong side of 30 that it’ll choke enough of the cap to make it difficult to sign other superstars… or if we choose to move on and not be a stupid team that holds on to and overpays it’s stars for their past, we likely lose him for nothing or pennies on the dollar.

Pacers have had some epic chokes this playoffs. That game 1 was killer with Haliburton just losing the ball out of bounds with no pressure.

Pacers overachieved big time. They have no top-15 star, their best one is Haliburton who's injury prone and not a top scorer, 2nd best Siamkam is at most Mikal Bridges level player. But they have 7-8 more above avg. starter-quality players that are confident to contribute in Turner, Nesmith, Nembhard, Toppin, McConnell, Mathurin, J.Smith, and rookie Shepard.

Bridges wishes he was a Siakam level player, who’s made 2 ALL-NBA teams, is a better scorer, rebounder, passer and outside of one great season by Bridges, almost or just as good defensively.

You are right. I was thinking of his current state of stardom. Seems Mikal has been hotter on the trade market now.

Let’s see what Bridges actually can fetch on the market if he ever gets traded. He’s a more attractive trade candidate because he’s gonna be 28 next year and still has a couple years left on a cap friendly deal, but it’s not because he’s the player Siakam is. Big part of what dinged Pascal on the trade market was he was gonna be a rent-a-vent FA on the wrong side of 30 that everyone knew Toronto wasn’t going to resign so they had zero leverage trying to get what his worth on the court at the deadline.
