Amazing Race: All-Stars Coming Early '07
Source: Variety
November 22, 2006

CBS has confirmed that the upcoming 11th edition of the Emmy-winning reality series "The Amazing Race," produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Bertram van Munster, will feature cast members from previous seasons of the show. Production on "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" began last week in Miami and will premiere in first-quarter 2007.

"Race" becomes the third CBS unscripted series to go all-star. "Survivor" began the trend a few years ago, while "Big Brother" followed suit last summer.

A CBS spokesman confirmed the all-star nature of the next "Race" but declined comment on which past cast members will return.

Variety reports that Rob and Amber -- who appeared on "Race" after appearing on two editions of "Survivor" -- will be given another shot at the top prize.

They are expected to square off against Joyce and Uchenna, their two chief opponents in season seven of "Race." The latter team narrowly won that edition.

Also lacing up again: Kentucky's David and Mary.

Ugh. They are one of my all time least favorite teams. Not an ounce of sense between the 2 of them. Dumb luck and the Cho's were the only reason they made it as far as they did.

They were definitely good players although you have to wonder how many times CBS plans on featuring them?

Ought to be interesting, this season is pretty good.

I just hope they bring back the hot blond chick from a couple of seasons back think her name was Kris.

The 'Race' is on, all-star style
By Gary Levin, USA TODAY
1/16/2007

The Amazing Race is back with its first all-star edition as 11 teams of competitors go on their second world trek.

CBS' three-time Emmy winner returns Feb. 18 (Sundays, 8 ET/PT) with teams from seven of its 10 seasons, to be unveiled today. From among the 200 or so previous contestants, "it was very hard to pick favorites," executive producer Bertram Van Munster says. Producers chose partly "in terms of where their life went" since they left the show. "They're not necessarily the winners, but character-wise, they're all-stars in our book."

Only one team — Uchenna and Joyce Agu — was a past winner, in Season 7. But others are standouts: height-challenged Charla Faddoul and cousin Mirna Hindoyan; Joe Baldassare and Bill Bartek (the first season's "team Guido"); Rob and Amber Mariano, who parlayed their Survivor stint into marriage and reality-TV careers; and Kevin O'Connor and Drew Feinberg, amiable, bald best friends from Season 1. Also repeating the Race are two teams from the latest season: coal miner David Conley and wife Mary, and beauty queens Dustin Seltzer and Kandice Pelletier.

Also in the hunt: Eric Sanchez and Danielle Turner, who competed on separate teams in Season 9 but later became a couple; Oswald Mendez and Danny Jimenez (Season 2's "Team Cha-Cha-Cha"); John Pietanza and Jill Aquilino, a now-split couple from Season 3; and Teri and Ian Pollack, the oldest couple to finish as runners-up (she's now 53, he's 54), also in Season 3.

How did Race challenge contestants who knew the drill? "We had to throw them curveball after curveball, because they all thought they knew what we were doing again," Van Munster says. So the 45,000-mile, 28-day race, which ended Dec. 19, sent them "from extreme cold to extreme heat," a desert in northern Chile to "borderline South Pole" in Antarctica.

Van Munster says he and co-creator Elise Doganieri had "reservations" about an all-star edition, but he's happy with the results.

"There is a lot of friction right off the bat" between teams, he says. "I'm confident we laid something on the table that will be very unexpected, and story-wise, there were plenty of fireworks."

Decent first episode - mostly navigational skills, one real challenge. But, it sorted out the pack a bit.

would have liked to seen someone other than Romber win the leg, but they are good players.

My team (favorites) rankings:

Danny and Oswald (Team Cha-cha-cha)
Joe and Bill (Team Guido)
Charla and Mirna
Teri and Ian
Dustin and Kandice (Beauty Queens)
Uchenna and Joyce
David and Mary (Kentucky)
John Vito and Jill
Eric and Danielle
Romber
Kevin and Drew

Was hoping Kevin and Drew got the axe, but they survived....

Hope for their sake they don't have to drive the same car out that they drove in having 4 wheeled it on a flat tire for quite awhile I would imagine that rim is shot?

Yeah - that was gutsy to continue driving, rather than waiting on help. I would imagine they would get a replacement during the 12-hour rest.

Rob and Amber finish first once again...they are just good at this stuff.

I loved the Kentucky guy, first he got Amber's name wrong, then he says "so you guys have your own cable channel or something?"

No, a different team asked them that I think...Kentucky isn't smart enough to come up with that...that was hilarious :)

I can't stand team Guido, the snotty midget and her cousin and the Kentucky Hillbillies....the sooner they are gone the better.

I don't want Rob and Amber to win but they are such a thorn in everyone elses side they make it interesting, so they can stick around for awhile.

I like the beauty queens and Uchenna(sp?) and Joyce...so I hope they stick around as long as possible.

I like Team Cha-Cha-Cha. They just seem like awesome people.

I also like Drew and Kevin, not sure why. And Joyce and Uchenna.
