If you like Flynn, Thor is about as close as they come. Shane introduced me to those books and I loved them. Let my dad borrow them and he loved them.

He has one crappy one (can't remember which one) but Athena project was the best. You can probably read that one out of order as it can be stand-alone and not depend on the series.
