There’s been no report that the Pacers will actually extend an offer sheet. What happens if they don’t? Will the Suns offer a near max deal or would they rather let him play for one more year and then walk?

I think the Suns will offer Ayton what they planned to offer last summer, somewhere around 4 years at a $100 million.

Bingo... the only ones talking about Max $ is DAs agent and ignorant media. The Suns FO is not alone in their true value of DA

No way. Getting KD and keeping Ayton is the wet dream best scenario. It has a snowballs prayer in hell - or Phoenix.
Fair enough. I don't believe we need a Center to get it done. I think if we had a really good PF and better back PG we would be just fine.

From where I remember they were saying they would give him max money but for 3-4 years not 5. A 5 year full max puts them in that stupid rule where guys can’t be traded and you can only have so many.

But who are those guys. Who’s a really good PF that we can realistically get and what PG are you going to get that’s willing to come be a back up.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but JJ said the organization last year was comfortable offering a 3 - 4 year max, but not a 5 year. Ayton's camp said that was a non-starter.

Now it appears the market for a 4 year max is soft to non-existant. This seems like a fairly significant oops to me. Who is Ayton's agent?

That’s how I remember it.

I think the market is there for a sign-and-trade with Ayton but it will probably have to be a multi-team trade which can be hard to put together. Not only that, the Suns are probably factoring in what assets it will take to get Kevin Durant. This is more difficult because Ayton can't be traded to the Nets because of the hard cap.

I don't know this for sure but I suspect Duffy wasn't all that involved until things fell apart. There was a female agent mentioned initially and with all the ESPN talk about how he was such a lock for a max contract, maybe they just didn't even consider the possibility they'd need to engage with us?

Also, with it looking like we intended to match or sign and trade, I'd imagine most clubs saw no reason to shed enough space to go after him. It's not a bullish market for centers in the first place and if we have concerns about DA, you can bet some of the other clubs do too. Also, most of what we think we know we really don't and probably won't until the news breaks.

The Suns would hopefully match an offer sheet. They would probably like a lesser amount.
Even so, that still doesn’t mean you have to go full max. You just have to figure out where you think the match line occurs. Just going full max without thinking about where that demarcation is ends up being really management.

Exactly. It’s sounds good in theory, but then you have to have actual players that meet those criteria and they have to actually be available.

Even though I think the Suns would welcome a lower offer for Ayton, I think the Suns have a figure in mind which they think is fair so long as he doesn't sign an offer sheet.

Ayton's camp likely knows what it is.

My guess the Suns will stick with this figure even though it was not an official offer.

I will be so pissed off.
Yeah, if we can’t Turner and at least a heavily protected first round pick or two, that’s really weak.

i feel like if they can get a couple first rounders in that scenario, you can sweeten the pot to NJ with those picks, some of our picks and Bridges for KD. If you can toss Dario and Craig in there to make salaries work, then you’re basically looking at:

CP3
Booker
Crowder
KD
Turner

Cam
Cam
Shamet
Biz
Ish

as your bench.

that team would need time to gel but maybe it’s a contender if it has generally good health and Payne can at least be average again and Cam J takes a step forward.

it’s no juggernaut though. They‘d have to gel and still battle to win a title.

This whole thread is a joke. Ayton said from the beginning all he wanted was a 2nd contract. That’s all he still wants. SMH.

That's an open ended question. If the Suns could use Ayton as a trade asset, there is a number of things that could happen with a number of players. Especially, if it was a 3 way trade. So, that depends? The point is, if Ayton's value was what everybody thought it would be, you could either make a trade or get assets to garner another trade.

I doubt we could get the wife beater Bridges from the Hornets straight up for Ayton. Suns will sign Anton to a 4 years 100 million contract back loaded.
