It's a game of chicken. Other teams trying to determine what Ayton WILL do and what the SUNS won't do without overpaying. Ayton trying to get max buck (and probably not succeeding). Suns staying tight lipped while wanting to be valued highly for sign and trade purposes but lowly for straight signing purposes.

The first big indicator that Ayton is not a max player is that the Nets don't want him in a Durant deal. His rep around the league is obviously damaged.

To me the first big indicator that Ayton was not a max player was how he played when he wasn't focused (or maybe, wasn't rested). As good as he was at times, his imitation of Casper the Friendly Zombie happened too often to just ignore it. Still, in the past, high draft picks that showed what he has shown usually got a max offer in the hope/expectation that he'd take that next step (Wiggins for example).

Paying him the what he wants still seems like the smart move to me given that even if we max him it's not too far from his on court value especially with a new TV deal looming. But they have a better idea of his makeup than any of us do so if (IF) they choose to part ways without recieving near full value him, that has to be a concern for the next team that gets him.

Ayton is mad that the Suns did not offer him a max deal. I am sure his agent told him it was disrespect. It is proving it wasn't. The suns are angry that DA has put gaming (and if rumors are true smoking weed) above his career. They are right.

DA is getting a dose of reality right now. The thing for the Suns to do is what is best for the team, not DA.

The waiting is driving me crazy.

My guess, if we do not hear anything soon, Ayton's camp has to be a part or have knowledge of the Suns negotiations, either for him to stay or go elsewhere.

Otherwise he has the option to sign an offer sheet.

So do you still want him now that you know he's a pot head?

I’d respect him more if he did coke. I mean if your gonna do it let’s do it right.

I think even with his drug habits and carpal tunnel from video games I’d still rather have him than lose him

It's 1 p.m. Eastern time and not even a good trade rumor.

There is no way he is a pot head. He already has said he is too amped up and that is why he plays games all the time.

He’s coming back and we’re trading for KD.

Book it
Finito, I hope that's the case. That and Ayton has gotten a wake up call and a dose of reality to put in the work & commit. KD, Booker, CP3, Ayton and ? as the starters and run it back.

Unless things break down, everyone is benefiting from negotiations or twitter world would be lit up.

You are not alone thinking that. It to me might be the best case scenario considering the disappointing value Ayton has shown across the league.

If we could have shored up the PG/PF by trading Ayton that would have been the best possible outcome with landing KD. Shoring up two positions for one? Sign me up.

Getting KD and keeping Ayton would be the second best outcome for me but I will still take it. The other posibility (not getting KD and losing Ayton for pennies or letting him walk) gives me the shivers. That would be one of the biggest offseason disasters in Suns history.

I thought the assumption was that in order to get a Kevin Durant that DeAndre Ayton would have to be the central trade piece for the Phoenix Suns. Wow Brooklyn may be saying they don't want him in return it sounds like he would be going to a third team like Utah or maybe Indiana.

Like I said somewhere else, I think was hanging everything up right now is the Kevin Durant talks. I'll be really really surprised if anything happens with DA until that's resolved or it's more clear that nobody is going to meet Brooklyn's asking price this summer.

It WILL end up costing us Mikal, wont it?
But I'm down for a lineup of Book, Cp3, Durant, DA, and whoever they buy when they sell Shame T for cash.

The Nets reportedly don't want Deandre Ayton in a sign-and-trade because he would hard cap the team.

The article below explains it better than I can.
