It means they have given up trying to actually acquire him and are actively trying to screw the Suns.

Not a good move for future relations.

I hope the Pacers weigh this. Their ownership usually like to do sign-and-trades.

It a recent summer league game Jalen Smith came up to James Jones and they hugged. Also they reportedly talked for about 5 minutes.

The bridges may not be burned with Ayton as some might think.

so why not match Indiana's offer and trade Ayton during the season?
You could but it's harder. Most teams have already utilized their cap space and now you have to find a team with pieces that can be moved. Moving a Max contract of any kind is going to very difficult. Plus, what if Ayton doesn't improve or plays like he doesn't want to be here? You are never moving that contract. You either need to sign him with the intent of keeping him or trade him IMO.

I am listening to Indiana radio. They are saying something is holding up the physical but don't know what. Not sure if it's a timing thing or if there is something that is up. My guess is it's simply a timing thing. You can't officially use the cap space until the league office approves that trade.

Brogdon was on a podcast with Woj hours ago. It doesn't make a lot of sense about the physical.

i'm going to triple down on my prediction that this is par for the course:

-- that the Suns intended to wait out an offer for Ayton only to match when they had to
-- that the Suns best option is to let this youngster's little grievances blow over because he knows the Suns, particularly Paul, has mentored him and will continue to do so this season until he has either increased his value to us or to another team in trade
-- the Durant saga complicated things some but we never intended to meet their outrageous demands anyway

Ayton is just a kid threatening to run away unless he gets a pony. he'll settle for a puppy, be happy when we start winning again and grow up a little in the process

if i'm wrong and he is moved to Indiana today, it can only be because the "internal matter" was more significant than any of us imagined. i just don't believe that

The Suns could be doing what the Nets are doing with Durant.

Field offers and if they don't get what they want for Ayton, keep him.

Yeah, I don't get it. By the way weird fact. If the Pacers get Ayton? He will be the first #1 pick to ever play for the Pacers according to their hosts.

I think there's also some restrictions when you match an offer. Unless I'm confusing it with some other situation I believe Ayton would have to approve any trade during the first season and can't be traded to the team that gave him an offer sheet for at least a year. And I may not be using "year" or "season" accurately but it's something like that.

Yes, I think you are correct. Ayton has to approve of the trade. I think I remember reading that as well because it's in the first year.

Agree 100 and hope yer right. I've always said they were just trying to let the league dictate what he made. I can't fathom why in this universe or any alternates available anyone would let this 24 year old kid go. For Myles ******* Turner. It would be "Simple Sam" levels of stupidity.

yes. i'll put it this way
Ayton is a hill you climb and, if need be, die on if you're Sarver and Jones
there's no way they bail out of the franchise's only #1 pick (ahead of Luka and Young)
who's immature but has showed signs of star power
who you were willing to pay a 4 year max, but rather than go to 5, would be willing to take back filler on a championship contending team?

no way. no way. i will that into the cornfield!

What if the Brogdon trade is falling apart or the Celtics want more compensation for something previously unknown.

Something is dragging this out.
