And I think they are killing this draft based on how they want to build this team.

I really would not know how to grade the Cards as I do not know enough about the plyayers we drafted. We could go from an A to a D. I know little or next to nothing about the QB we took except he is as big or bigger than Big Ben and can run a bit. Also has a canon arm. I am never one for trading down so that part I am no happy with. I generally want the BPA and going backwards generally does not get you that. Our guys get paid to evaluate so I obviously defer to them and hope we have some future stars in this gfroupl

And I would prefer a great season rather then a perceived great draft.

I agree. Just ask any of us Longhorn fans, me, Jetstream, Bucky, how that stuff works out.

Actually in this situation trading down was a great idea that panned out beautifully. They said that Bucannon was their top player available when their pick came up, but they knew they could trade back and still get him. So they traded back as far as they felt safe, which netted them an extra pick and still allowed them to take their guy.

After watching BASK explain the draft picks the honeymoon is going as strong as ever.

I especially liked how they explained they doubled down on players they liked in Kareem Martin and Ed Stinson. Then again on John Brown and Walt Powell.

These guys are good. I'm drinking the koolaid heavy. :koolaid:

you know how I feel

We reached at every position - I just considered BPA to include other quality players at every NFL position. WE TARGETED BUCANNON at #20 and like a fox was able to trade down to 27 and get an extra 3rd round pick! I crapped and fell back in it!

Kind of like the guy that grabbed little Suzy and dragged her into the bushes, and ripped off all her clothes - and she just laughed and laughed - She knew them pants wouldn't fit him!

This was a gutless draft, If they had the guts to take an actual BPA and set and wait until the next pick, taking the risk that someone may pick the player you wanted the most, takes guts. Hey sometimes teams pick players you want before your next pick - IT happens - Our staff left a lot of talent on the board at premium positions.

Pass Rushers- Oline- QB - WR - 52 DBS fifty freakin two mind you. We get the best SS another TE to go with Pope and Dray and Houselor. A project DE conversion to OLB that is more than iffy. Another Mighty Mouse hopeful taken several rounds early, A nondraftable QB that would rather play TE.

We didn't even hit singles? you guys know we were 3rd in the division and picked before the Niners and the Seahawks don't you? we won 10 missed the playoffs and still earned a 4th week bye! We were laughed at about what we received to move down 7 slots in the 1st round, compared to other trades. and then chose a 2nd to 3rd round player.

The players we picked are happy to be selected, ecstatic to be selected where they were selected if at all! no Chips on their shoulders! Keim thinks he is all that and a cup of butter- but if BA stops to fast Keim might lose his head up BA's backside.

I know for sure we should have a stack of premium position quality, DB's, pass rushers, WR's OL, QB's and upgraded our backfield in this draft. Everybody but the Cardinals has a stack of premium talent.

You all seem happy with them getting the least amount possible from Cards draft assets. And I am a fan and I don't need to wait 2-3 years to say this! I pay my dues - I don't receive a pay check from the NFL. and I say it how I see it.
So I'm the curmudgeon, with a chip on my shoulder, and I'm ok with that.

Man I'm so glad there are posters here like you who get it. I guess it's a casual fan thing not sure. Kind of annoying to read some of the comments though.

You see I too think this was a good draft. And here's why. The cardinals have a prototype of what they want in every position. Tall strong armed QBs. Long DL and LBs. Speed at WR. Blocking first TEs. This is the part where most fans miss the boat. Guys like Aaron Donald, Johnny Manziel, and Kelvin Benjamin are not going to be drafted by this team. That doesn't mean they will be bad players. It's means they don't fit what the Cardinals do. Had they drafted Manziel I might have been excited but also questioning WTH too.

This is a GREAT thing Cardinals fans. Rod Graves had no rhyme or reason for whom he picked. It was all ratings and bad ones at that. Thats what 80% of GMs do too. Here we draft based on our program. Just like Seattle, Green Bay and others.

I also think picking at 20 took us out of range on positions we HAD to fill. People talk about BPA and that's true in later rounds but you also want to draft guys who will start in rd 1-2 and the Cardinals likely felt they HAD to come out of draft with reliable options at those 2 positions (and WR because of uncertainty of Fitz) and they did well. Based on what I have read I think the team really wanted Sefarian Jenkins and Calvin Pryor but those guys were taken. That's what happens when you draft at 20 and not top 5 or top 10.

And I would prefer a great season rather then a perceived great draft.

I used to love the draft but its losing its appeal to me because of the reactionary nonsense and 45,000 mock drafts. Lets be real EVERYONE grades teams drafts based on who they like or based on a mix of rankings for dudes who arent paid by teams to you know actually scout and most of the time it's the ones we don't talk about that have the most contributors. And you are absolutely killing the draft if you get 4 contributors 3 years later. No one aces every pick yet many of you guys heads are exploding because of a 6th rd pick you have never heard of. It's mental masterbaution at its finest.

Getting all worked up now is stupid. We can all have our opinions but before saying the honey moon is over (LOL - that 10 win season sure went up in smoke because you don't like John Brown ASU) let give it 6 months and see these guys in TC and preseason, eh?

Nice job! Exactly how I look at it. Best post of the weekend.

So you don`t like getting a starting safety(Bucannon),a solid TE(Niklas) who has a huge upside who can catch and block,A 6`6 DE-OLB with potential (Martin)l,a very solid DE(Stinson) and a Developmental QB (Thomas) and 2 WRs (Brown,Powell) who are fast and can return kicks also.
So you are ranting because Cards didn`t go after a one dimensional pass rusher like Dee Ford instead of a guy Niklas who could be the best TE to play in AZ.Cards picked up a surefire starter in Bucannon,a TE who will likely be starting by the end of the year,Martin who will help, and Stinson who is a big strong guy with Frostee Rucker will enable the Cards to give CC and DD breathers so tey can be available at crunch time. The WRs give speed as slot WRs and KR and PR guys.Thhe only guy who probably won`t see much time if any will be LoganTHomas QB.
I just don`t see the hysterical ranting or the need for it.

The pundits were only 20% right on their draft guesses At BEST - and they get PAID for their opinions. As a fan, I will join the wait and see crowd - i don't obsess over college players, upside, need and all that. I watch the games in the regular season.

The honeymoon is over? How about waiting until pre-season before the divorce.

Combine a solid draft with an excellent free agency and I'd give BA&SK a solid B on the off-season to date. They still need to re-sign Eric Winston and coach these guys up. People ripping them have long-term memory issues if they don't appreciate these guys after the Rod Graves & Bob Ferguson regimes..

Exactly.

So our picks weren't top on Kiper/Mayocks big board when we took them. So what. The only thing that matters now is if these guys perform for us on Sundays. I'm reserving judgement on this draft until I see how these guys contribute.

It's only over if they don't get results on the field next year. Head scratcher or not, they still get the benefit of the doubt until we see what happens this season.

I'm somewhere in the middle. This team could still win 9+ games and have this draft class be full of zeroes. We won 10 games with a 35-year-old never-was at strong safety. The floor on Bucannon better be much higher than the ceiling on Yeremiah Bell.

Niklas only has to be an upgrade over a former 7th round pick to be viewed as a huge success, and only has to play 2 offensive snaps to be far more productive than his 2013 2nd round counterpart.

I think this draft was two fold. The first and second rounds were selections that will have an immediate impact this upcoming season. They also filled areas that needed upgrading and Bucannon and Niklas will do just that. This fits the win now mode.

Rounds 3-6 are players who BASK identified as possible limited contributors (exception Thomas) and players they can take time developing to fill positions down the road when present day starters are either retired or released. This fits the continual filling of the roster to sustain continued development of players to ensure the roster never gets depleted of talent or quality depth.

This draft not only added to the now mode but built toward the future.
