I think during the Washington scenario they knew they where on thin ice with him but he was too good and still relatively young that they said screw it and gambled but this draft made me think of another player. We drafted two WRs, and also gave Ginn a three year contract. I also think the other Brown on this team, Jaron, is solid and will catch the ball in the clutch and is exactly what one wants for a long term depth player. Floyd is coming along and the Cardinals are not shy to promote it. The Cardinals say they want Fitzgerald to retire a Cardinal, and I would love that but to me... all this shows they are taking precautions for life without Fitz after this season. We are all concerned about re-signing Peterson but if Floyd has the year I expect, he is our long term cash cow on the opposite of Peterson. This board is going to get really interesting after this season lol

a team should always have every players replacement sitting in the wings....Fitz is a fan favorite no doubt....but without some serious GIVE on his part that contract is going to cripple the team. If the team has to cut him to limit the damage then so be it. He will get paid either way....so it will really show his level of commitment to the team when the rubber meets the road on this one.

I also look at the team from a depth perception as I am sure a lot of people do here and certainly the coaches... what is our depth at ILB lol

Unfortunately the Cards have missed on so many 2-4th round draft picks they don't have anyone waiting in the wings. In fact the only time I remember them actually accomplishing that was with Calais Campbell. And instead of replacing an expensive or older player he replaced a guy who has started 78 games, had 27 sacks and made the pro bowl with his new team. ( there may be others but I'm old and I forget)

Of course the job is to replace, not guys at the end of their 1st contract, but players at the end of their 2nd. Fortunately It does look like the Cards are finally starting to get to that point.
