Yup. #44 John David Crowe out of Texas A& M. He could run like a quarter horse but was built like a fullback. He was flat out awesome. He was the one of the initial reasons I became a Cards fan. Yeah I am that old...wanna make somethin' out of it???!!!:p ;) :D

John David Crow, 1957 Heisman trophy winner.

Crow still holds two Cardinals records:
Most rushing touchdowns, season - 14 (1962)
YPC, season - 5.9 (1960: 183–1,071) (min 100 carries)

1) Edge better break that rushing TDs record
2) The YPC record will never fall. Amazing stat there

BigRedArk: I notice you list your home as North Little Rock. You should, as you know, change that to Dog Town. john in L.R. the Capital

:D

What John is talking about is way back when people in Little Rock would take the dogs they no longer wanted or any stray dogs that they could catch over the bridge (the Arkansas River divides the two cities) to North LIttle Rock and turn 'em loose. Hence the less than flattering nickname.

I poke fun at Ark. quite a bit on this board, but we did a VA Hospital down in Fayetteville back in the 70's and I really fell in love with that city. Truly gracious people who loved to party and a mecca for fishing, hunting, etc.

I didn't see much of the rest of the state, but that part was really picturesque.

Yeah it is a beautiful town up in the Boston mountains which are really just tall hills compared to like Colorado. University of Arkansas is there and it is a beautiful campus. The Razorbacks should be in the top 20 in football every year with that campus and their stadium and facilities.

Agree 1000%

5.9 YPC is flat out amazing.

Could you imagine an average of 2nd and 4?

that makes two of us!!! he was terrific...of course we were the same old chicago cardinals then...i believe JD had polio as a youngster...but he was just a great runner and blocker....if i remember correctly he broke in when lamar mchann was our quarterback...he might have been there a bit before then....if you remember JD then you were a fan to see sonny randle and sam "the rifle" etcheverry.....i was in junior high school when etcheverry broke in....he was a heralded addition at the time...oh well...i lot of the contributors to this blog have not suffered as long as we have!!!
