The Cardinals first pick in the 2013 draft should be?

Wrong. The quarterback makes the OL look good. The OL makes the running back look good (with an exception like Adrian Peterson proving the rule).

Both opinions have validity.

Bad OL makes QB look worse, Bad QB makes everything look worse.

So if the QB gets more time to throw that isn't going to make them look better? Also a good running game isn't going to help the QB either?

K9 is not saying more time will not make the QB better, he is saying with all the variables involved, the QB offers more to the OL than the OL makes to the QB.

Some people use the philosophy of BPA in the draft. That may be OK but the position of QB is such an overriding position that you may be forced to fill that position even though there may be players at other positions that grade out better. It is a position that is the most dominant difference maker on any team. You can pass on for a player who grades out better for a QB. If all the QBs are duds then you could make the case for BPA but not in our case. We have ZIP, Zero, Nada, at QB. We are doomed to the depths of the NFL until we fill that position. A good QB can add a ton of offense to this team. The best offensive lineman in the draft can not add more than 1-2 wins if that. Look what Manning, RGIII, Luck, and others have done for there teams this year. There will be 3 or more QBs go in round 1 in April and we better take one. I want Wilson but will gladly settle for one of the other two as you never know who is going to turn into a great QB. If I had the first pick in the draft I would still take a QB. If I saw one I liked I would trade up like Washington did for RGIII who has taken Washington to the playoffs. You have to be proactive in your pursuit for a QB. I sometimes wonder did we really go all out to get Manning. Can you overpay for a QB of the future or the next 3-4 years? Not if you want to go to a Superbowl.

I understand your point, but I think a lot will be determined by the combine, pro days, and the College All Atar games. The cream rises to the top sometimes. A poor choice at QB will guarantee another Cardinal HC will lose his job

Most of the QB's this yr. are 2nd Rd. and lower grades. Geno Smith being the only likely exception.

Joeckel is probably going #1 to KC now that Reid is there.

I haven't decided who I want the Cards #1 pick to be. Two guys I had opposite opinions, Lewan and Moore, completely changed my thinking with their bowl game performance. Lewan played very well against Clowney. In fact, he dominated him for 3 quarters and I had not seen him play that well. With Moore, I only saw the 1st half, but he didn't show me anything spectacular or anything to make me think he is a top pick. I know you can't judge on one game, but these are games that they are in the spotlight.

IMHO at #7 the pick should be OT Taylor Lewan because even at Potter's best he is still not on the same level as Lewan. LT & QB's are worthy of Top 10 picks, an OG in the Top 10 is unheard of. Chance Warmack may be the top OG in the draft but if ARZ takes him at #7 then they are reaching. David DeCastro was considered the top OG last year and he went late 1st round despite every one saying ARZ would be stupid not to take him at #13.

By taking Lewan, ARZ ensures itself a starting LT for the next 10 years as Michigan always produces quality OL. ARZ would have 3 young, promising OT's and Potter could be a valuable back up if someone goes down. ARZ's top FA target should be Andy Levitre from BUF and the other OG spot should be between Levi & Kelemete who looked pretty good in training camp.

My caveat to taking Lewan at #7 is if somehow Jarvis Jones drops to #7, then ARZ has a tough decision. QB's like Manuel, Glennon, Bray, Jones, Barkley & possibly Wilson could be had in Round 2 or 3, so ARZ could still get its QB. An interesting scenario to mention, SEA is putting Matt Flynn on the block, if ARZ took on his contract, SEA may take less compensation for him. I would trade a 4th or 5th rounder for Flynn assuming we cut Kolb.

I'd get rid of all our Qb's except Hoyer (keep as a backup) and try to trade for Browns Weeden if we could get him for a 3rd rounder. Then use our 1st pick on an O-lineman, or Teo. Weeden looked pretty good on a horrible Browns offense that has NO receivers.......

Pass rusher or QB. O-Line that high is a wasted draft pick unless there's a QB not named Kolb already on the roster.

Thats your opinion, I have mine. I dont believe there is a player that will "make us a winner" in this years draft....MB will give more than one year to make changes.

Who's going to throw the ball behind this all star offensive line?

And don't tell me Kevin Kolb.

If they can protect the passer.... For more than 2 milliseconds......

Barkevious Mingo. This man is a freak show.

Long arms, burst off the line and elite top end speed, feet, knee bend. Disciplined in his gap control and plays with really good technique to offset his lack of bulk.

Say goodbye to Kaepernick and Wilson scrambling out of the pocket with Mingo on the edge.

Couldn't stay healthy getting protection in Philly.

Next.

Massively wrong.

He never has had protection in Philly. He played after Runyan and before Peters. Clay Matthews concussed him (from behind) week 1 in 2010. It was the last meaningful competition he had in Philly.

Because there the Eagles, does not mean their NFC East history is on the field. Their OL has stunk it up for a while. I agree Indy :)

Just proved my point.

Everyone gets hit in the NFL and Kolb can't take hits. You expect him to stay on his feet the whole year?

Your point was that he had protection and didn't succeed. What you just proved is that deflection and misdirection are alive and well on this message board.

I am not saying he wont get hurt. But since we know that we are rolling with Kolb, we have to minimize the risks of that investment.

I suppose you're right, Kolb maybe never has had protection. But of course behind the same offensive lines his peers on the Cardinals and Eagles got sacked at almost half the rate he does. Says something doesn't it? Perhaps Kolb himself has something to do with getting hit so frequently.

Dude has gotten hurt Weeks 1, 7 (and again week 15), and 6 in the last three years. You can't minimize the risk if you're investing in the QB equivalent of Enron.
