It would not shock me at all if the 49ers traveled to the east coast and lost their 10AM game at Carolina next week, giving the Panthers their first win. In fact, I kinda think it will happen. They might still be hungover celebrating their big win over the Raiders.

Lock of the week.

Suprisingly enough, to me at least, that team hasn't quit on Singletary just yet. If they do, all bets are off but if Mike hangs on to both his job and his team I think they sweep the Rams, split with us and beat the Seahawks. That puts 7 wins comfortably within reach.

I hope they win just enough games for Sngletary to keep his job.

If the Cards hadn't lost 41-7 and 41-10 I'd agree with you. But getting beat like that with 4 all-pro starters on defense, no way.

LOL.

Yet, we just beat the Super Bowl Champs. How long are you going to ring your hands over two bad losses ? We had more than two bad losses and went to the Super Bowl that same year!

But, let me guess, the Rams are good now, but sucked when we played them right ?

The Cardinals sit atop the division and are not even the best team in there own fans' eyes.

People thinking a 1-4 team is better than ours. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

The team can't even get a SMALL amount of respect from their own fans after beating the SB Champs.

The Cards forced 4 turnovers against the Rams and only beat them by 4 points. Bradford completed 32 passes against the Cards. I wouldn't say they sucked then. But the Rams got beat 44-6 by the Lions just two weeks ago so I wouldn't say they were any great shakes now either.

The 2003 Cards beat the Packers who advanced to the second round of the playoffs that season and knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs and that team gets the least amount of respect of any team from their own fans in the last 10 years.

When the Offense and Defense start to play like our special teams which have been solid on a consistent basis I'll give them some respect.

Of course there is no reason why the Cards can't go to Seattle and win either. They have the talent they just haven't been playing anywhere near where they should be. This weeks game should show who is the best team in the division.

Hey I was with you all the way up to your last sentence. I think it's wishful thinking to believe any one game this season will reveal the truth of the NFC West. I wouldn't be surprised by a loss in Seattle but it certainly wouldn't take the Cards out of the running, IMO. Despite a 3 - 0 Sunday this is still a fairly weak division.

We're looking at inconsistency across the board this year. For example, SD showed how they can win against us and how they lose against the Rams. It also shows once again that it's hard to win on the road. The Rams are 3-1 at home. We are fortunate to have that single victory--and even though having to start every year mostly on the road is brutal--the backloaded home schedule this year will be huge considering our circumstances.

Oh, and a win in Seattle would be huge. It would put the Cards at 4-2 and drop the Seahawks to 3-3; plus would give the Cards a second division road win and Seattle their first home loss. It's a long season, but there's a lot to be gained in this game.

The Rams have really tailored their offense to Bradford (as they should). I think I saw only one pass thrown farther than 10 yards. Everything was short and up the middle. SD linebackers were nowhere to be found. It was a pretty wierd game - I kept waiting for SD to get back on top and it just didn't happen.

winning the div by default? meh.

I really have no excitement for the idea of the Cardinals being a 7-9 division winner.

Making the playoffs (generally) is a symptom or effect of something I am excited about: the Cardinals playing good, winning football for the majority of their 16 game schedule.

I agree. If we win the division with a 7 - 9 team and then go on and win the Super Bowl, I'm tossing it back.

Playing good, winning football is a relative thing especially in this era of parity. Our shortcomings are many and obvious but look around the league and that appears to be more the norm than the exception. I'm not going to be thrilled with a 7 - 9 record but winning the division still carries some value regardless how it's done.

Being able to say we made the playoffs for the 3rd straight season despite it being a down year for us would be something to get excited about, IMO.

Not comfortably within reach at all. Possibly within reach, but comfortably implies a level of ease. It'll take every ounce of will and determination for them to manage 7 wins this season.

All they'd have to do in that scenario is beat Tampa at home and Denver at a neutral site. While that may not be easy, it certainly falls within my estimation of "comfortably within reach". It does hurt them that one of their winnable home games happens to be in London but I can't say I feel all that sorry for them. The only bad thing about them finishing with 5 or 6 wins is that they might actually bring in a good coach next season.

Not big win as in score, but as in emotionally. You know, the "Break out the champagne, we won a game!" kind. The sigh of relief, the monkey off the back. Now they can exhale and relax....and go to Carolina and resume losing.

Well, what happened was, that second game, we got our ass kicked. In the second half, we just got our ass totally kicked. We couldn’t do diddly poo offensively, we couldn’t make a first down, we couldn’t run the ball, we didn’t try to run the ball, we couldn’t complete a pass - we sucked. The second half, we sucked. We couldn't stop the run. Every time they got the ball, they went down and got points. We got our ass totally kicked in the second half - that's what it boiled down to. It was a horseshit performance in the second half. Horseshit. I’m totally embarrassed and totally ashamed. Coaching did a horrible job. The players did a horrible job. We got our ass kicked in that second half. It sucked. It stunk.
