The Cards can "thank" R. Gallery and D'Brickashaw when Thomas is there at #5.

The NFL Draft is a funny game and all factors are considered when investing a 15 to 20 million dollar signing bonus on a kid and I will bet that the struggles of the most recent top 5 Offensive Tackles (Gallery and D'Brick) will be in the back of the minds of Executives from the Lions and Browns when their 15 minutes comes up on the clock.

Go back and look at the draft bios of both Gallery and D'Brickashaw and you could simply replace the name with Joe Thomas and have the same bio. All 3 guys are great athletes, all three were superior at pass blocking at the college level, all three are tall, not overly huge finesse type tackles who dominated in college with athletic abililty and movement skills instead of just pure raw power.

Look at Bench Press reps: Gallery-20 reps, D'Brickashaw-19 reps, Thomas-27 reps. Thomas has the edge but 27 isn't exactly setting the world on fire considering that Brady Quinn had 24 reps.

I think Joe Thomas will be there at #5. In fact I will guarantee it. There I am making my Joe Namathesque guarantee for this upcoming draft. The question will be if the Cards pull the trigger.

I meant the Cards can thank Gallery and D'Brickashaw. Ommitted the thank in the title of the thread. Sorry.

So what type of compensation do you offer if this fails to happen?

Actually from everything I heard, D'brick did well last year. No worse than someone by the name of Leonard Davis.

I have read conflicting reports on the length of Thomas' arms. Some sites say short, most say long. This issue (short arms) appears to be one of the reasons that Gallery has been unsuccessful so far.

The thought of drafting another Gallery scares the heck out of me. Personally, I would rather see the trade with Pittsburgh (for Starks), than whiff on the #5 spot.

Woah, Quinn's reps were abnormal for a QB, so don't downgrade Thomas for that. 27 reps for a Ot is slightly above average. 24 for a QB is huge. Now, saying that, Thomas is not known as a bruiser, but his reps were just fine for an o-lineman.

Starks is significantly worse than either Robert Gallery or D'Brickashaw Ferguson. I'm not sure what the man-love is for Max Starks on this board, but he's a horrible pass blocker--even for the right side, and only an adequate run blocker.

Gallery has failed to live up to expectations--like Leonard Davis did, but he's still managed to start nearly every game in his young career and be a contributor. I'm more worried that Thomas will end up like the player that TSN's draft guide compares him to: Jordan Gross. Gross started his career as an RT and then was moved to LT, where he struggled. Since then, the Panthers have been looking for an LT who can allow Gross to move back to his more comfortable position. The left side was just too fast for Gross, who was regarded as a very good prospect.
