What is the anti-star team?

The Anti-Star team is players who aren’t doing so hot. Minutes played are taken into consideration, so the Anti-Star teams aren’t full of guys who never play, but rather it has people who are playing and getting bad results.

JJ is among the league leaders in minutes played, which is one of the reasons that he shows up here. Also working against him is the fact that the team is doing so poorly. His status has been rising rapidly since the trade, and if he maintains his current level of play, he should be off of the Anti-Star team in a few weeks. But for now, he’s still on the worst team in the conference, and his numbers on the season are not good. (He’s shooting .425 from the field, and not hitting a lot of three-pointers or getting to the line very often.)

The Anti-Star teams have a lot of SG/SF swings because that’s the position where players are most likely to be able to play a lot of minutes without putting up some kind of stats. PGs usually get some assists, and PFs and Cs usually get some rebounds. But there are a lot of SGs and SFs whose only role (statistically) is to score, and if they don’t do it efficiently, they end up with bad overall numbers.
