It doesn’t mean they’d do it but I’ve heard the Cards inquired about the number 4 pick. I’ve also heard Cleveland wants this year’s one, next year’s one and another pick or player. Too rich for me! In that scenario the Browns would take a QB at one.

Would love to hear the caliber of player expected in that scenario. 2 #1s and a guy doesnt seem too far out for me. That being said, it can't be any of our top tier guys, and we really HAVE to believe that the 4th best guy at the position still has the skill set to be QBOTF, regardless of who it may be. When have 4 QBs ever brought that to a single a draft year? Especially when they are taken 1 - 4?

That is way too cheap for Cleveland - the cost has to be higher, in 2016 it costs 3 draft picks (plus some swaps) which included the next year's number 1. I would think it would cost this year a first, a second and a third, next year's first, plus maybe a player and lower pick, or some swapping of positions:

The Browns will receive Philadelphia's No. 8 overall pick, a third- and fourth-round selection in this draft, next year's first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2018.

The terms are as follows: Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick at 1 (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017).

Rams get: Titans' first-overall pick at 15 (2016), a fourth-round pick (2016) and a sixth-round pick (2016).

the price is high but if you think you can lock down that position then you have to do it.

Depending on what the final piece would be, I would make that trade if Darnold was there. If not, then I wouldn't consider moving up

I definitely agree. If the cost was no more than a couple of first rounders and, say, Jared Veldheer, I would do it in a second. That would be like stealing, I think.

Same thought I had.

The price doesn't scare me. The Cards 1st round picks for the last 4 years are rather 'meh anyway ('13 Cooper, '14 Bucannon, '15 Humphries, '16 Nkemdiche).

What bothers me is you'd be giving up the assets to pick up the leftovers at #4. I'd only make that trade when the Browns were on the clock and you knew what you were bidding on.

It's just the cost of moving up 11 spots into the top 5. If you can get that Clevland pick I think you gotta do it. Otherwise you miss out on the 5 top QB's this year possibly. They don't have that luxury any more. They'd even need to trafe up for Rudolph from the 2nd to get him as well anyway. Far from a guarantee with him or Falk.

No. Your trying to get that pick now because you'd take any of the top 4 as an upgrade to the position.

The price doesn't scare me at all (depending on the player) but giving that up to get the 3rd or 4th best player at that position does. History has not been kind to that scenario.

We have so many holes
We are forced to trade down and collect picks

Even trading down 5spots and get an extra 3th and 4th round picks

If that is what it would take to get to four, you bet I would do it on draft day after I knew who was available and it was your guy available at four. I think you definitely get Cleveland on the phone now and see how they like the trade and get a feel for what they would want

Saw a tweet from Jurecki the other day that said we would have to part with a 1,2,3 this year, along with a 1 and 2 next year in order to move up to #4.

The first part is doable to me, because we would still be left with the #4 pick and our 3rd round compensatory pick. It is what we would have to give up next year that gives me pause.

Having a draft that goes 4 deep in quality QBs is extremely, extremely rare. For most drafts, if one guy emerges as a franchise QB, you are lucky. And even that #1 rated QB is often a bust.

About the only draft---one that is legendary---is the 1983
draft that netted 3 HOF and a couple of other pretty good QBs (with round and pick). Even lower round guys in this draft stuck around and had careers.

Elway 1-1
Blackledge 1-7
Kelly 1-14
Eason 1-15
O’Brien 1-24
Marino 1-27

To run a query on the draft history database by position, portal page at Pro-Football Reference:

https://www.pro-football-reference....ence=any&show=all&order_by=default&offset=300

For the Cards to trade a bounty of draft pick to move up for possibly the 4th QB off the board---would be a historical (and hysterical) gamble.

Agree. Not only do we have holes in our roster, several on the roster are getting old as well and we need to reload on those positions.

I am against trading up in this draft for the 4th or 5th QB. About the only time I could even imagine making that gamble is when you have a young roster with very few holes. Then you can gamble and leave a blank for a chance at top talent in your next couple drafts because you have a good roster already assembled.

You guys arent seeing the forest through the trees. Elway will trump whatever we put up because he has the #5 overall.

I’ve given up on trading I to the top five this year. We just don’t have the assets to make it happen.
You can always trade up; it's just a matter of how much you want to mortgage the future.

Not necessarily. Cleveland could get more from the Cards than Denver. The farther you move up, the more you have to give up.

I do see Buffalo eyeing the Giants #2 spot.

If you're giving up next year's 1 and 2, I say you don't even think about it You've still got 5 other picks (probably won't get many comp picks next year) and having a young QB to build around solves a lot problems.

Yeah this sounds more likely. If we only had to give up next year's 1 and a player, unless it's Jones or Peterson that would be highway robbery. The Jets gave up 3 2nd rounders to move up 3 spots. I'd guess it would cost about our 2nd and 3rd this year, plus and 3rd next, so right around what Jurecki reported.

It's too much to give up to get up there. We all want the franchise QB, but picking through the leftovers and paying for the privilege to do so is a recipe for disaster.

Not to mention the already noted history of trade ups not working out, and the fact that this roster is going to need players next year with very few under contract. We need the picks.
