The Cardinals have been absolutely pitiful since they moved to Arizona save for a few years. When the Cardinals have success like the Patriots, Steelers, 49ers, etc. and still have the same problems then you can complain about the fans. When the Cardinals are going 5-11 I have much better things to do than drive an hour to Glendale, watch a team lose and not only lose but not even put up a fight, then drive an hour home, and pay for the pleasure of doing it.

I'm speaking generally this season may turn out to be a good one and the team has been exciting to watch so far.
Sooo....what's your definition of a bandwagon fan?

I usually get my tix from Stubhub and I look for seats in Section 114, labeled as family section. I think it used to be 112 or 113 which were a little better seats but they changed it a year or 2 ago. There is a section in the upper deck somewhere that's alcohol free but I've never sat there.

When I sit in the upper deck, I sit with Andy440 and he's not a drunk..:D

.
I think you're what is known as an enabler, thanks for covering for me :)

That will generate the type of organic fan support that would provide the best defense against a stadium containing lackluster Cards support and healthy attendance from visiting team fans...
Becoming a fan because the team wins is not organic. It's fair weather. Yes, I recognize that for some people, who they root for depends on whether or not the team wins. Those people are unworthy of my consideration. I have a more precise way of wording that, but I suspect filters on this site look for those words.

Don't entirely disagree... However, can you offer another way that will generate organic fan support? Give away free tickets perhaps?

See, you're not looking at this situation in the broader and more long-term success...
If, as a fan you want to create more fans/better fans, well... something has to give. Things needs to change. Or, you can take your approach and say "Screw you!" to everyone who jumps on board the wagon when the Cards win.
I see the situation thru the lens of my youth, where from the time I can walk and talk, it was engrained in me as to which NY teams I was to be a fan of. So, you want more fans/better fans? Then I would strongly suggest that you and all other fans, the players, coaches and ownership, do everything possible to create more wins and accept anyone and everyone who decides to jump on board if/when those wins take root, as many of those "bandwagon fans" will go on to have children one day, and those kids will see Cardinal memorabilia. They will hear stories of the great players who led the Cardinals to exciting wins, post-season wins, and maybe even a Super Bowl or two... Those kids will see their father, uncles, cousins and others cheer for a team with an angry little bird painted on their helmets. Those kids will be taken to Cardinal games as youngsters and they will remember what it was like to take that very first step into a pro football stadium... to see and smell the bright green grass and all the lights... the giant video screens, the crowd noise...

Same here, lifelong Cardinals fan-baseball & football. In the 1960s, there were Saturday & Sunday baseball games on NBC & CBS. The Cardinals were lucky to be on those games 3-4 times a season. The Yankees every weekend. The networks took turns broadcasting NY. I had to get my baseball Cardinals fix on the radio. ;)
For football, it was the hated Bears every weekend and the 'Big Red' occasionally on MNF.

Lifelong Cardinals fan in both sports also, even though I grew up in Syracuse, NY. I could get KMOX on my Dad's Vista Cruise station wagon as long as I had it parked in a certain spot in the driveway. I recall the Cardinals being scheduled to be on the Game of the Week (Saturday 1:00 pm) against the Mets. It had to be around 1970. The game was rained out & I cried. In those days there was no back-up game, so they would go to a movie instead.

You guys are depressing me about going to a home Cardinal game. My son's & I have been to many Cardinal road games over the years (Redskins mostly, some Ravens games too). Our record in those games is something like 3-28. The last 2 games we went to were brutal losses, 22-21 to Skins & the Ravens game, when we blew a 21-3 lead. My 11 yr old said he will NEVER go to another roadie. Of course, my oldest Justin likes to go & get in fights when we lose! I've promised them that as soon as their respectable again, that we will fly in for a game. If my 11 yr old sees fans there rooting for the other team, he may punch them in the face. Not kidding. The poor kid got spit on at a Ravens game when he was 5! That was the game when AW got flagged late for lighting up Heap, which cost us the game. I don't even want to explain what happened to that drunk bastard. Justin had some fun

KTAR was ranting about Arizona Fans in General yesterday and I got pissed.
That shirt grab that was called on the Cards leading to the Lion TD happened to the Cards receiver all day long- always has- and they can blow their east coast pie holes until the AZ sun burns off their jewel protector- It does matter-

I'm paying to watch AZ sports team and those stupid's are on my radio!
Mo other NHL team was owned by the NHL- and shoved through the grinder!
No other NBA team ever got Doughteryed
Ryan Braun was caught cheating and MLB let him destroy Goldies effort in the playoff game I watched Juice !

I liked SDS and screw them all its fact not fantasy!

Especially considering there were several local living season ticket holders with their buts parked on the Internet in our game thread and not at the home opener :)

I would assume that you are talking about me since you asked if I was at the game in the game day thread. But then I re-read your post and saw you are talking about season ticket holders, something I am not this year. So I guess you are complaining about someone else.

And, before anyone asks, it's no one's business why I don't have tickets this year, though I will say I plan/hope to be back on the list, regardless of the team's record, next year.

in the last seven seasons, this team has had two winning seasons...and during those seven season, every single home game has been sold out. I'd say the fans are pretty damn good considering the trash they've had to watch for the majority of that period.

+1

There is no denying that the product this business is trying to sell has been sub-par a majority of the time and that is NOT on the fanbase.

Not to mention I personally am not going to fly across the country only to be kicked out of the game for cheering to loud.

Thus why is it so hard to realize that an inferior product, coupled with a very unfriendly fan environment is resulting in the prevention of the Cardinals fan base growing in strength.

Cause in my case spending $2000 to watch the team get blown out and for me to be thrown out for cheering and standing up is a very real possibility. That kind of environment in none to inviting.

JMHO.

Good thread guys, impressive points made

Not because of the fans, I am just worried I would get kicked out for standing and cheering for the team.

The one time I did go out to AZ, it was awesome. So much fun. One of the best days of my life.

I'm not going to go back and read ten pages of crap but calling out people for not being at the game is pure punk ass BS!
Not everyone can afford season tickets and or single game tickets every year, if you can, good for you!
That being said just because you can't make a game doesn't make you less of a fan!

Scalpers own the stadium and that goes back to SDS when nobody showed up and they kept buying seats, now it's paying off for them.
Where were you then?

If the Cardinals win there will be more Cardinals fans in the seats unfortunately they will have to buy their seats from the scalpers.

Cardinals fans calling out Cardinals is disgraceful!

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you go down that road!

PWI?

PWI-That's probably not good - I'm not sure- but I have Cardinal Fan PTSD and not just the team but the officials and media!

I would love to see an official review performed by and outside entity- I mean the NFL has never policed the NFL officials- sock millions on the players and coaches- but even after a replay - they call it "down by contact"

Some of the best plays possible have been negated- and an NFL game looks like the NBA many Sundays- than The Steelers have none? None? come on man NONE!

I take it personal - cause it is- It is as much cheating as steroids or gambling on the game- and it is not even!

What???? You must be PWI.

Yeah, well if you took the time to go back one whole page you would have read this-
BTW, I understand people not going because of budget reasons. Gotta take care your home.

My original post was about the support for the team in general. You know, being the fifth (or sixth depending on where you get it) largest metro area in the US and not even holding a candle to much smaller cities. One of my favorite posters on this board, Section11 used to sit right in front of me and he gave up his tickets because Birdie was preggers. Ask him how much ish I gave him. None.

It was also a commentary on how so many fans just sit on their asses and don't make any noise.

For what it's worth, anyone who puts any stock into that Emory study as far as how supportive or how "good" fans are is a complete dolt

Here is the heart of their methodology

The key idea is that we look at team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors.

That produces idiotic results like having the Jets ahead of the Giants, the titans and chargers at 10 & 11 before the broncos, skins and packers, etc

They used the prior 3 seasons and a big reason why the cowboys were #1 was that they played sub .500 ball and were over capacity

I know the first two things I check out when thinking if a team has a good fan base are the stadium capacity and median income of the city..................

If you have affordable tickets your fans are bad

If you have a winning team your fans could be bad

All of these "support" studies have flaws - this particular one doesn't even have a pulse

It's the next generation that is gonna get us over the hump. In 2006 when I started teaching the kids still talked crap about the Cardinals. Now, in 2013 I see folders with Cardinals doodles and kids that ask me every week if I could take them with me to a game. Wish I could, neighborhood I teach in is poor and many have never gone. Maybe the Cardinals should donate all those unused tickets they claim as sold to some underprivileged children.

I find that the earlier in the year games are hard to get up for after tailgating. I'm usually suffering from heat exhaustion by the time the game starts. And the last few years, by the time the weather cools down we know we are not making the playoffs and the enthusiasm wears down. My throat never seems to hurt after games anymore these days...

In 2003 the Cardinals sold 17,500 season tickets. Things are slightly better now I think.
