To continue the girl talk. Holmes is not as attractive as MG IMO. An in reality they are both built just about exactly the same even with the same large head and weird facial structure.

And DCR, Julia Stiles > Kirsten Dunst, stop with the comparisons NOW! :) Go see Spidey 2, IMO was the best action/comic book film I had ever seen, until The Dark Knight. There is a fight sequence on a train that was spectacular.

I just watched TDK last night for the 2nd time. The movie was just as good for round 2, possibly a round 3 coming when my dad gets up here.

Ledger put so much into this role it is amazing. The voice, the way he walks, the tongue thing, his eyes, his personality, everything was finely tuned and simply one of the best good guys/villains/or acting jobs I've seen in recent years and certainly qualifies up there as one my favorite roles ever.

Aaron Eckart on 2nd viewing is superb. I loved the guy in Thank You For Smoking, but he really got to show his grit and skill. Hopefully this means bigger and better roles for the guy beyond what I will guess as Two Face in Batman III.

For those that think Bale was dull or boring. Wayne isn't an exciting character. He is a brooding person. Especially in this one with the love triangle he is caught up in and the hope and helpelessness he feels in no longer wanting to be Batman. I thought he was excellent and without him this film doesn't work PERIOD.

my thoughts:

1. Without a doubt, the best picture of the year so far.

2. Without a doubt, the greatest sequel in the history of sequels in film.

3. Without a doubt, the best big-budget comic-book money maker since T2 (and it may be better, but T2 just seems to harken back to days of innocence and good god, Arnold v. the T-1000 with James Cameron throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the screen... yeah, to even be in league with T2 as far as summer action pictures goes is about the highest praise I can give a movie).

4. Without a doubt, one of the three greatest villains of all time - Darth Vader, Lecter and the Joker. Ledger was simply mesmerizing. Any scene with him in the interrogation room was spellbinding.

Honestly, I had RIDICULOUSLY high expectations for this film and unfortunately a week before I got to see it, some internet douche spoiled some pretty big plot points... and none of it mattered. I was still blown away by it, especially the decision made at the end for who gets the blame.

Bottom line, I'm still completely screwed up from back surgery, but even though I didn't have any pain meds and the movie was 2.5 hours, I could have sat there for as long as he wanted to weave his tale. That's pretty impressive to me when a movie can literally engulf you to the point of not feeling anything else in the world. Immersion. You accomplish that with your audience and you deserve high praise.

Sheer brilliance as far as the genre goes. Christopher Nolan at this point should be gaining serious steam to be lauded as THE great American (even though he's a Brit) Filmmaker (I'm talking Spielberg-levels) of this era. Memento was brilliant, Insomnia seemed like something he just had to do to get into the system, but was still effective, then, he just hit two straight out of the park. Batman Begins was a GREAT reboot of a franchise which had completely fallen apart and The Prestige was an incredible game of one-ups-manship to death in the world of magic. Now, with The Dark Knight, he's hit a grand slam, seemingly taking every little bit of promise he showed in all those films and put it all together to create something that will go down in history.

and here's my thoughts on where the next movie goes:

You have Batman on the run, and whereas he felt alone before, now he's truly alone. That scenario seems like the perfect opportunity for a lonely and heartbroken Bruce Wayne to rebound with someone who's probably pretty bad for him... enter Catwoman, someone who might drag Batman down to the level of villain as she's his sympathetic ear as the City continues to hunt him (maybe contracting out some one like Kill-Shot to kill Bats). The love of a good woman can make guys nuts... the love of a bad woman can make you bat-**** crazy. Meanwhile, with the Joker locked up and the Mob all but done, below the surface, Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin) is amassing his own army of terror and ultimately, the city will go to complete **** and Batman will have to decide between a life of crime but understanding with Catwoman or does he restore his name and turn his back on love and obliterate the Penguin.

Eh, this will probably have to be the Riddler as the above plays too close to Returns, although I do think the difference in Batman going Bad is something that could be very interesting to play with.

I like it. But, to geek out on you for a moment: did you mean Deadshot?

Also, there's an interesting storyline in the comic book right now that your "batman gone bad" treatment made me think of--it's similar. The premise of that story is "what would years of being batman do to a man?" It's basically batman cracking. It's not easy on a person's psyche (or body) being as focused and driven for so long.

It may not work for a guy who's been batman for seemingly about a year, but it's an interesting premise based on his recent losses and his first glimpse into true evil (Joker); I think that angle could work for a "bats gone wild" story, too.

Well against my will I was dragged to this movie by my wife, I am not into the whole man raging against society in their underwear thing. I was actually surprised and liked it.

I also think Ledger was very good but I also think the whole, tourtured soul thing is simply an over rated figmintation of sympathy and media hype. But since being hyped up on a perscription drug combo seems to make everyone think your perfomance is worthy of an oscar, I am planning on taking a ledger like mix tonight just to see if my wife brags to her friends.

OK, saw it today. Overall an OK but not great flick, and Heath Ledger was by far the best thing about it. He did a simply great job -- but how anyone even remotely considers that a soul-warpingly dark role is beyond me.

Saw this today. Definitely WAY too much going on, but decent movie. Heath Ledger was friggin fantastic. I mean, like, FRIGGIN'.

That said, I still don't see the absolutely ridiculous hype this movie got. Enjoyable movie, but that's about it for me. I should note that I am not at all into the Batman scene, and this was my first Batman movie experience, so take that for what it's worth.

Best Movie I have seen in a long time. Thank you IMAX. I love you.

Not sure what the deal is with Batman's gravelly voice. Kinda dumb. But who cares.

I seriously love living in the city where they filmed Batman and Blues Brothers.

Woo hoo!!

Wasn't too impressed with Maggie. Almost as bad as KH. Had bags under her eyes the whole movie

People in Gotham City are smarter than Metropolis. If he didn't have that voice, people would know he is Bruce Wayne of course. :duh:

I got that. I just sounded odd. I am wondering why Batman does use a Jedi Mind Trick/hypnosis thing to disguise his voice. He doesn't really talk that much anyway.

No big deal really.

The lambo had a "Land of Lincoln" plate on it!!! Most of the cars did I'm sure but that is the one I noticed.

8.75 for me... Lots of good stuff that has already been mentioned but I got to say I liked Ironman better. Different type of movie for sure but Ironman suits my simple brain!

Oh, Ironman is a much more enjoyable movie, for me -- generally better acted, written, and directed. Apart from Ledger, Freeman, and Caine, all the characters over-acted and were a tad too cartoonish. Somehow Ironman escaped that limitation.

Really? I thought Jeff Bridges actually BECAME a literal cartoon in the 2nd half of the movie.

Yep. But I can see how someone might go to a comic book movie for a less intense experience. They spent over half the time in the lab and wisecracking in Iron Man.

BTW, there were a bunch of 6-8 year olds there with their parents. I don't know what those parents were thinking. A) Those kids are not going to sleep well all week and B) the movie was more than 2.5 hours.

Ditto. I saw it yesterday in Flagstaff at noon and there were a lot of 9-10 yr olds. What are these parents thinking? Did they no know what kind of movie this was?

I think I like Batman Begins better. This one was pretty long, with too many subplots and a lot of violence. I left the theatre with a headache!

Just saw it and thought it was a great movie. I don't think it is a total legend of a movie though. And, and as good as Ledger was, I think the Oscar hype is more a factor of his tragic end than his actual performance. Maybe I was expecting too much, based on what I heard?

Still, I really enjoyed it for the most part.

One Batman question...why do the citizens of Gotham want the hero arrested? I just don't understand that part...
