The biggest positive from this game for me was the play of several 1,2,and 3rd year Defensive players. I won't call any by name because of the DJ jinx but there are several guys that when in the game make our D look different than anything I've seen from the Cardinals in years.

In addition they appear to be versatile players that a quality DC can use in many different ways.

Guys that are demonstrating improvement every week.

Good job kiDs

I thought that we had crap personell on Defense from the top to the bottom and so it wasn't actually our DC's (Miller) fault at all, he was actually an excellent DC, it was just that fact that ALL our players (yes even the probowlers) sucked and the missed tackle stats prove it!!!

Oh wait, nevermind, none of that bull crap makes any sense at all does it? I've just been reading too much ASFN. My fault. :D Carry on!

Seriously? The Chargers had a number of sustained drives without any gameplanning. How many times was Rivers sacked? Pressured?

Washington making a lot of tackles 6 yards downfield? Check.

Secondary players giving up first-down passes? Check.

It's going to get worse before it gets better on defense, guys. Patrick Peterson cashing in when Rivers threw into quadruple coverage not withstanding.

This offense better put up 28 PPG or we're going to lose quite a bit.

Had 7 tackles at least two behind the LOS.. Not a bad %

Lots of players make tackles downfield especially on passing downs :)

Awesome. Not sure if the cameras caught Washington falling on his @$$ after running the RB out of bounds 7 yards downfield, either.

Guys I liked on D: Dockett, Campbell, Williams, Carter (in rotation), Rhodes was fine.

Washington continues to be the most overrated player on ASFN and by the Cards' hype machine. Schofield didn't bring anything, and neither did Porter. It's going to be a long season on D.

At least Washington's apologists will have lots of tackles 8 yards downfield on third-and-six to thump their chests about. Dude is below average.

I was actually at the game tonight, and I saw every snap. Were you there?

Watch the highlight, and you'll see (at least) four red jerseys around one white one when PP made his INT. Doesn't take away from what he did--he did a great job stepping in front of the ball and taking it to the house. But that's the reality of what happened there.

Phillip Rivers is going to be kicking himself for even attempting that pass.

Then maybe he should play his true position: Safety. Because he's too soft to play linebacker. Did you see the stiff-arm that Tolbert laid on him at the sideline? Looked like a rag-doll.

1st and 10 at SD 39 R.Mathews up the middle to SD 38 for -1 yards (C.Haggans, D.Washington).

2nd and 5 at SD 24 R.Mathews left tackle to SD 23 for -1 yards (D.Washington).

2nd and 7 at SD 20 R.Mathews left tackle pushed ob at SD 22 for 2 yards (D.Washington). I'm pretty sure this is the play where Washington fell down.

I haven't watched the game yet, but plan to do so, shortly. All I will say in defense of our Defense is that we should all remember that they were going up against a very, very good offense. Consider:
1. Philip Rivers is one of the best QB's in the League.
2. Jackson and Floyd were probably the 2nd and 3rd best WR's on the field, last night.
3. Antonio Gates is the best TE in the NFL.
4. Volek is an excellent backup QB.

They are, imo, one of the best teams we'll face this year.

Kerouac, you are deadwrong on Washington tonight.

You are wrong about him. I know your ego won't allow you to ever be wrong, but he had a very good game tonight. He made several very instinctive plays where he read where the play was going presnap and knifed in to make a play. I counted 2 tackles for a loss, one tackle at the line of scrimmage and one tackle for a short gain out on the flat. He was also in very good position in coverage for the most part. It's funny if you had been in the chat during the game, I was specifically making fun of your "lack of instincts" comments every time he made a play. :p

Early in the game we WERE getting some pressure. The replays clearly showed that, which from experience, I know you don't get to see that as well while at the game. But the Chargers adjusted and started tearing apart our big cushion we were giving.

On a sidenote Porter is terrible. I keyed in on him, and he has absolutely NO burst to the outside now (same with Haggans) and he can't bullrush/disengage from even a meh LT in the NFL. At least Schofield has a burst; it's time to move Porter to a backup role and let the young guy play.

Wow. You know what, I am using the ignore function. I can't take this intentional stupidity anymore.

God you are obnoxious when it comes to daryl. I forgot every good ILB in the nfl makes every tackle at or behind the LOS. Give it a rest.

Does one of them rhyme with Ratrick Reterson?

:D

You nearly called it you said blocked FG instead he gets Rivers for a pick six.

Even on a short return like that you can see the acceleration.

You also have to take into account how much better our LBs are when Dan Williams is in the game.

Meanwhile going with Haggans at DE Dockett at DT Campbell at DT and Porter at DE is going to make the ILBs look worse and is just sending the offense an engraved invitation to score.

Standing Haggans and Porter up with Dockett and Campbell in the middle in the 2-4-5 or 2-3-6* look doesn't work much better.

*I can't really tell every time on TV if the Cards have 1 or 2 ILBs in the game in those formations.

Yeah but in years past DRC was the only guy at CB we had who makes that play. THe others drop it.

And it's not like Rivers is going to be cut anyday now, he's a pretty good QB so I think we can at least assume the Cards did something that confused him or he just didn't think Peterson could get there.

Agreed it was a dumb throw, but NFL QB's get away with 1-2 almost picks every week, you want guys who turn those into picks which is what Peterson did.

Works every time. Even down to the similarity to the video of DRC's pick I posted.

Sorry though that I forgot myself with DeMarco Sampson and posted good things about him and the poor kid misses the game with a hamstring injury.

All this praise still results in the 2nd worst pass Defense this preason and two losses.

I'm trying but the force is strong with DJ.
