Considering how awful the defense was early in the season, that is damn impressive. We have come a long way on defense, my friends.

Cards may move up to 17th in points allowed after today

The only thing I did not like about our D was the last play of the game 4th & 1 for SF. They chased Alex Smith in the back field but he managed to escape and was able to throw a pass. Their RB dropped the pass. If he caught it, we'd be in trouble. ALex Smith should have been sacked, no excuse.

He should have just ran for the first down. It was insane not to..he had it. Thank goodness he is Alex Smith and didn't realize that he was a yard and a half away from a crucial first down vs. a loss.

Some interesting defensive stats since our Balt game...

vs San Fran (2): 5 sacks, only allowed 3 of 17 third down conversions.

vs Dallas: 5 sacks, only allowed 4 of 12 third down conversions.

vs St L (2): 3 sacks, only allowed 3 of 13 third down conversions.

vs San Fran (1): 0 sacks, only allowed 8 of 21 third down conversions.

vs Philly: 2 sacks, only allowed 3 of 15 third down conversions.

vs St L (1): 4 sacks, only allowed 3 of 14 third down conversions.

19 sacks in past 6 games, and have held opposing teams to 24 of 92 on third down conversions (26%).

Our defense is morphing into a top 10 defense, probably with the potential to be top 5, and that's how you win championships usually.

We're on schedule to have enough offensive firepower to go with a rock solid defense if we can keep CC.

We still need more in the draft but one key FA and some good draft choices would probably put us in the running for a SB win.

I can't believe it's come this far this fast, it was horrid to start the year.

Wow is all I can say.

Interesting stat that they said during the game. Stated that we are number one in 3rd down defense. I haven't had a chance to verify, but that would explain a lot.

According to nfl.com/stats the Cards are 4th at 32%.

Surprising that the Cards have done fairly well in that category considering it always seemed like they give up big plays on 3rd down.

12th last season at 37% and 6th in 2009 at 35%.

Maybe it has to be 3rd and 8 or longer for the other team to convert. :)

Saw a stat yesterday that said the cards are 10th in the league with 35 sacks.

The first drive was about as pathetic as any drive has been for the Cards in recent memory.

After that though, he defense settled down and played very well. I'm very proud of this defense and pretty shocked to see that this is the heart and soul of this team ATM.

Which is very impressive considering the "no offseason" and how horrible they were to start the year. Even more impressive is how they are doing this with how much the O (Skelton) turns the ball over.

Add to this that Rhodes missed a bunch of games, Dumpster Dan is out, Adub started off the season with a busted wing and rather uncomfortable in the new D, a rookie and 2nd year UFA as starters at CB, .......

It's thrilling to see a Cards team with a real NFL defense that also shows the potential to be a top notch NFL D.

17th in points allowed. 18th yards allowed. Pay up, boys.

Since it was my fellow Longhorn Alum Sam Acho who was responsible for that finish and this is my thread you have to pay me a commission.

:)
