The fact of the matter is, it's Sam Raimi's property, he's doing what he wants with it--that's a little different than the normal remake you consistently complain about.

Absolutely, he has the right to do so. That doesn't make it any more of a good idea, in my eyes, and it doesn't make it any different than the endless line of retreads you come on here and defend to the bone. Will you be catching the new Longest Yard, complete with Adam Sandler? Yeah, have fun with that :p

Sorry about the above, I didn't mean to make it as mean as it sounded.

Regarding this post, however, I do NOT want to see Longest Yard, but not because of Adam Sandler, it's because of Chris Rock, who I don't like at all.

Nah, it's all good...I put the smilie there to make sure of it. I just can't see Sandler being a former star QB...sorry! I like Chris Rock, though, and as it doesn't seem as if they're passing him off as a player, he'll probably be good. I just think the movie as a whole, though, will be...well, a really bad remake. Lol

Bruce Campbell won't be Ash says Rob Tapert
Source: Now Playing Magazine
February 2, 2005

Rob Tapert has confirmed with Now Playing that Campbell will not be appearing as Ash, the idiot-hero of the original films.

"Yes," Tapert says when asked if the nouveau Dead will be recast, "because it will be off of the original movie. It's five kids go to a cabin, but it's not a continuation of the existing Evil Dead backstory."

"[We're] talking to various filmmakers about their possible interest, and it's still in the germination stage," says Tapert. "There are people who we would like to give a chance to create their own vision as to what Evil Dead is, so we're kind of hearing what other people's take might be and moving forward along those lines."

Well, this actually doesn't sound like a remake as much as it is just a new movie set in the same world. Unfortunately, it sounds like a "Blair Witch 2" project--but it'll have to be pretty bad to match that disaster.

Campbell on the Evil Dead Remake
Source: Penny Blood Magazine
March 21, 2006

Penny Blood Magazine talked to Bruce Campbell about the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead he will be working on with Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man" franchise). Here's a clip:

"We don't really talk about [another] sequel too much 'cause Sam is too busy right now. It would all be kinda moot. But I think we're gonna do a remake. It'll be a whole new story, though. It won't be with Ash. It'll be the evil book, and it'll affect a whole new group of people in a different situation. More like a reinvention. A lot of people, they got really crabby on the Internet when they first heard that type of stuff. But, we would never do anything to insult them. The trick is to take that premise - and we think it's a scary premise - and use some cool modern day FX… so we won't have green garden hoses in the shots. We wanna make a flat out, scary-ass, un-rated horror film."

Does this mean it will be a SERIOUS Evil Dead? Part of its charm was it's tongue-in-cheek humor, mainly because the acting was so bad. If they put in actors with some modicum of talent, it turns into a Cabin Fever/Wrong Turn cliche-fest.

Sam Raimi has found his director for the Evil Dead "quasi-remake."

He has enlisted Federico Alvarez to helm the redo. The fledgling director signed with Raimi in 2009 after Alvarez's short film, Panic Attack, garnered Hollywood's attention.

Apparently casting is underway in Detroit.

I still think it's a horrible movie to remake. Not because it's a classic but because it's work is done. It was an entertaining movie but IMO that was almost solely due to the on-screen charisma of Bruce Campbell. Without him, that movie would have gathered dust till MST3000 snatched it up.

I find it hard to get emotional over this stuff. Besides, I preferred Army of Darkness.

Horrible.

I hope it bombs. Those are "cult classics" and without Bruce Campbell the whole situation has zero interest.

I don't watch those story lines for the plot. Which suck.

I watch them from Bruce.

Warning: Naughty Language
Short Version

Long Version - Favorite line 9:33 in

Best line is omitted from the short clip segment, but is in the longer one.

Knight: Are all men of the future, loud mouthed braggarts as yourself?
Ash: Nope. Just me baby... Just me

I am pretty sure I can no longer tell the difference between Army of Darkness and Evil Dead.
