Where is the fun here? This looks like any other typical over the top slasher flick.

Okay, so I talked myself into this one. My rationale was that this was going to be the movie Sam Raimi wanted to make the first time. He didn't have the budget or really the know how to do it right the first time, so this was the flat-out horror movie he wanted to make. And I heard it was going to be good, and it looked good, so I got psyched for it a little.

I wish I had my time back. It wasn't awful--that isn't strong enough language. It sucked. It kind of tried to ride a balance between being a cheesefest and being a real horror movie. Well, never go halfway. If they wanted it to be a cheesefest, they should have sold out and done that. If they wanted it to be an actual serious horror movie, they should have sold out and done that. Add in the awful nature of some of the writing, dialogue, and copy-cat stuff from the original, and this one blew chunks.

The strange irony for me was that, like you stated, the movie never really picked a side (cheese vs. gorefest). There were moments in the film when I thought it could really establish itself, and get good, but instead the filmmakers decided not to cross one line or another.

Overall, even with lowered expectations, it was disappointing. As odd as it sounds, it was missing heart...and tension...and Bruce Campbell.

Oh, and a question I had:
Was the scene at the end with the nude female Deadite in the rain of blood a reference to "Angel Heart"? She didn't have any nipples, and I remember there was a big controversy with the MPAA rating for Angel Heart being NC-17 because it had a nipple and blood in the same shot.

LOL.

Ain't gonna work without Bruce Campbell and cheesy special effects.

When will Hollywood learn. It ain't the pretty colors, its the story.

It could have been Bruce Campbell and hand puppets (and it wasn't far from it) and those movies would still have been great.

"Are all men from the future loudmouthed braggarts?"

"Nope. Just me, baby. Just me."

How come someone can sit through this movie and not feel moved, yet they will cover their eyes when Kevin Ware's broken leg pops up on their TV?
