If you watched him at the combine, you wouldn't be convinced that he's a fit, let alone a "great' one at RT.

To be fair he was pushing 400 pounds at the combine and slow. He is already 35 pounds lighter and will be at 355 by the time training camp rolls around according to John Lott. 45 pounds lighter tends to make a guy a little faster on his feet. Combined with the longest arms in the draft and currently on the team I can at least see why they would try him out at RT first. May not be where he ends up but I see the thought process.

I agree. Grimm is always looking for versatile lineman. If he can fill more than one spot... great!

Uh, Gandy plays LT and is like 31. He isn't retiring anytime soon.
Always get Brown and Gandy mixed up with their positions . I'm almost positive that Brown's natural position is LT, which is the position he played in college, very successfully i might add. Maybe Whiz has plans to move Brown back to LT, and put Johnson in the RT position. Or Johnson will just be the 2nd stringer behind Brown, who knows :)

Exactly.

And you can't teach 6'7" 355lbs.

He's now my favorite Cardinals draft pick until proven otherwise. I love the guys who sign right away and get to work.

he was my favorite pick on draft day when I was like "who the hell is Herman Johnson (google)........OH....MY....GOD...."

From the Gut...

I realize it's really really early, but I've got a really good feeling about this guy.

I am skeptical. Cards have signed many gigantic o-lineman that haven't panned out.

Skeptical of a 5th round pick? How dare you!

Here's a scouting report on Johnson: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/518158

He's pretty nimble for a guy his size, while he may not have the fastest feet, his huge wingspan and powerful upperbody compensate for his foot movement. Should be a great fit at RT, which is the position Whiz is giving him the most reps.

As long as we don't place our overgrown giants out of position at LT, like we did with Leonard Davis, all will be fine.

The tears that AW let fall after the Philly game in the inveterview on national tv were enough to tell me all I need to know about him.

Sorry, posted this in wrong thread. Meant to post in AW thread.
