Watch his highlight film. He looks a litttle like Boldin.

We can't use his initials for any kind of nickname. :D

I think everyone is readin WAY too much into this (http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1703193&postcount=1 ). We need another reciever and Doucet wit fit nicely as our 3rd/slot receiver. Boldin aint going no where... I think the Cards realized they werent goint to get a better player/WR than Doucet past the 3rd and a lot of the players they probably wanted were taken in the 9 picks directly ahead of them in the 3rd round.

BTW: KC is killing this draft!!!

KC having a great draft, but it won't matter. They have a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE head coach. The most overrated HC I've seen in my lifetime of watching the NFL (and I'm pretty old). He singlehandedly brought down the Jets & Chiefs.

Another implication of this pick:

I don't believe the Cardinals are trading Boldin. However, this pick removes the leverage Boldin would have with attempting a hold out. This pick means it is more likely that his agent will not pull any silly shenanigans.

No it doesn't...not at all.

The Cards will not trade Boldin. He is the leader of the team. Doucet is a steal in the 3rd and he will instantly become the 3rd WR making people wonder who that Johnson guy was.

Well, considering that BJ didn't seem fast enough to separate from defenders and Early is slower than BJ, color me NOT thrilled. We needed to either draft speed at that position or not draft that position at all.

I love this pick. He is a good run blocker and according to Lindy's he hunts for defenders to block on run plays. He style sounds an awful lot like Q and Hines Ward. He's a typical physical Whis type player. A good fit. It said he also played some QB in HS. Two WR's on the field at the same time with the ability to run gadget plays on third and mid or third and short I like it. Awesome pick.

Early is actually faster than Q. Early is a 4.56 coming in, Boldin was a 4.67.

So what? BJ was faster than Q, but wasn't fast enough. We didn't need someone just a tad faster than Q. We needed a burner. Or nothing at all until late in the draft. 5th, 6th, 7th round, sure, I could see another possession WR by BPA. 3rd? No way.

Didn't need speed for the sake of speed who can't deliver. So there.

The Cardinals took the WR in this draft with the best hands...Doucet caught 96.7% of the passes thrown to him at LSU...and, get this, he's a player who doesn't hear footsteps...he is supremely tough concentrating on the football. Essentially the Cards went from having a #3 WR who had speed but shaky hands, to a #3 WR who thrives in the slot and catches virtually every ball thrown his way.

While Doucet runs in the 4.5 range (not a true burner), he has an extremely strong base and excellent feet, which alow him to create separation off his cuts.

While I appreciate and understand Harry's point about the possible implications of this pick, I think this pick was as simple as taking the WR who has the best hands in the draft. TSN has Doucet rated as the #1 WR and had him going in the first round to Tampa Bay at #20. (They also had Calais Campbell going #13 to Carolina...which essentially means that with their first three picks, the Cardinals took three players who at one time or another were considered first round talent).

The Cardinals got tremendous value at #81 with this kid.

Sure, the Cardinals still need a deep threat...and maybe Jamaica Rector can be that...or maybe the Cards might add another WR later. But, as we saw with Bryant Johnson, what good is deep speed if the player can't catch the ball?

And, let's not forget how many games BJ had to start when either Q or LF were hurt. Doucet gives the Cards a bona fide starter, who can play the Z WR.

Nice post. I like the pick. IMO, he is actually an upgrade over BJ with regard to catching the ball. And don't forget the blocking ability. I can deal with the second coming of Anquan Boldin, especially in round three for a legitimate #3 receiver.

I'm not so sure they can't use DRC in a few packages requiring a speed receiver. The guy goes 4.33.

Well, given the choice between Doucet as 3rd wideout, and what we have on the roster now; I'm with Early and often. 40% of BJ's catches were for first downs, and if get this or more out of a 3rd. round pick, I, for one, will be satisfied.

I'll take three WRs with tremendous hands, route running ability, and toughness.. over the speed burners, who cant catch a cold..

Some of you really think that football is as simple as getting a real fast guy, and telling him to run straight down the field?

Ideally you want a receivers like Moss who runs like the wind, catches everything, and is a freak..

But those guys arent available this draft.. Early Doucet is arguably the best WR in this draft.. that is a guy i want.. over taking a gamble with a track star type WR, who cant catch or doesnt know how to read defenses, etc..

Exactly!

Plus Doucet has deceptive game speed. There is 40 speed and then there is game speed with pads on. Doucet, while his 40 speed didn't Wow anybody, has super fast excelleration and runs great patterns. Tack on great hands and you have the steal of the thrid round.

I absolutely love this pick!

I LOVE this pick. Doucet is tough as nails and is clutch. Some players disappear in pressure situations, not him. He thrives on it.

This guy will be a good player for a long time. Now, the Iwebema pick, that's one I'm not too thrilled about.

We should have drafted Phillip Wheeler or Cliff Avrill at OLB and maybe taken Harry Douglass at WR despite his size. I think Douglass will be a solid slot Wr ala Bobby Ingram. Doucett is a Boldin clone and Harry you could be right, this could spell the end of Q in AZ!!!

A Boldin clone? How is he a Boldin clone, because he's not speedy? He is nothing like Boldin imo, he is much to slight of stature to be compared to a monster like Boldin.

Doucet will be a fine 3rd WR, he knows how to run routes, and he will play early, much better prospect than any of our other potential #3s, Breaston or Urban.

I completely agree with those evaluations. I watched almost every LSU game, his acceleration is unreal, I think he possesses a great skillset as a slot WR, I just wish he was "more" of a burner.

That's an amazing stat considering 60% of the passes thrown BJ's way ended up being dropped touchdowns.

We are adding depth. Anybody who thinks Urban or Morey should be catching passes in this offense consistently are selling the team short. It adds talent, to a depth position of need at a great value and prepares if the Boldin issue gets bigger. We run a lot of 3 WR stuff, so I see this as replacing a quasi-starter in Johnson.
