Harry had Doucet going in round 1. joeschmo saw this in round 3.

The only connections I see, to our current WR situation, are not sinister, just simple.

1. We need a replacement of some kind for Bryant Johnson and Doucet is now in the mix.
2 He can play the slot as a #3 Wr.
3. Most importantly, he might be able to start a few games as a replacement for either Boldin or Fitz, both of whom were hurt last year.

As far as his upside, I have no idea.

Didn't need speed for the sake of speed who can't deliver. So there.

Exactly, thanks for making my point. If there wasn't a GOOD speed WR, we should have passed on WR and taken a better player. I'm not saying Doucet isn't a good WR, but there were players just as good, if not better, IMO, and at positions we needed more help at.

You are such a draft for need guy. Admit it.

"The better player?" WTF? Doucet was far and away the BPA on the board!

No, this was a brilliant pick, IMO. Not too often do you hear from this board A) Boy BJ is really stretching the field for Fitz and Quan, or B) I wish Boldin had a little more speed to get the separation he needs.

What's wrong with a strong WR from a top conference that catches EVERYTHING, again? How is this going to HURT our offense? Please explain.

I adore this pick

Forget about Boldin's contract situation and just look what would happen this year if Boldin or Fitz went down to injury...we would have no one in my mind on the team to pick up the slack with Johnson leaving. If he is healthy, Doucett is a stud with great hands and I had no idea the guy was still available in the third. I really like the pick personally.

No I'm not, or I'd have hated the Calais Campbell pick. Need at that point, IMO, was RB. Before the draft, if somebody would have asked this board whether Early or Avril was BPA, I GUARANTEE YOU the majority would have said Avril.

That's not what I'm saying, not in the least. It will certainly help our offense. Avril would have helped us MORE, IMO. And like I said in my previous post, in no way was Doucet BPA over Avril before the draft. Suddenly we drafted Doucet, and he is? Homerism, IMO. Sorry, but it's homerism.

I think you're wrong. Look at how many mocks (on this board) had Doucet going in the first and how many had Avril going in the first. Without even looking I can think of 2 mocks that had Doucet in the first and none that had Avril in the first.

A majority of this board? Well, that is the clincher, isn't it.

Check this boards mocks and then see if you call it homerism (at least from me).

EDIT: You call it homerism, I call it the only clear BPA pick for the cardinals of the draft.

The Sporting News had him ranked number 1 on their draft guide and compared him to Reggie Wayne...that is not a bad thing, is it? Only time will tell but for me it fills the void left by Johnson. I completely understand Stout's opinions as well on the pick, this is why I love going on this board and hearing the multiple opinions.

I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy. Sure, I love the enthusiasm and the positive attitude, to flock to the defense of one of our draft picks, but come on. YOU, Mulli...given the choice between Cliff Avril and Early Doucet, before the draft...whou would YOU have chosen? I know who I would have taken, and it isn't Early.

Pariah, you and I simply disagree on which player would have been or should have been BPA. I can easily respect that, give you a nod for your opinion, and agree to disagree. I just can't stand how many people are jumping up and down who would have, before the draft, been upset to see us pass on Avril for Doucet.

I personally would've taken Doucet. Especially if you narrowed down to the 3rd round.

Uh huh. That's why I heard soooooo many people on this board coveting Doucet before the draft. No, wait a second...that was Avril. And people slobbering on this board at the thought that Avril would be available in the 3rd. Of course, that was before, and so nobody is willing to admit it.

You put too much weight into what Mitch writes.

Actually, I usually skip his threads. His posts are too long by far and usually outlandish. No offense, Mitch; they're entertaining for a lot of folks.

Well, he's the only one I remember pushing Avril hard. Some people do pick up on what he says though.

As you know, I took some heat for having him as the first receiver off the board. Clearly I liked him a great deal if I had him going 11 to Buffalo. If he stays healthy, he will be an impact receiver in the NFL. Here’s the concern. He is not the type of receiver who can spread the field. You can only have some many receivers running 15 yard patterns if you hope to get any separation of defenders. To me this only means one thing. Despite the denials, the Cards are seriously considering trading Boldin.
Doucet is a fine player and easily worth this pick. He just doesn’t fit with the other two receivers.

Maybe our coaches are looking forward and think they may have to trade Bolden as you state. That would seem to me the most probably reason. Bolden may think he will never be the man here in AZ with Fitz here and wants to go to a team who is contending NOW>

Maybe...but maybe that was because no one expected Doucet to last past the first round.

By your reasoning, was no one coveting DeSean Jackson or Malcom Kelly?

It still just kills me that people are bagging on this pick. Best pick of the day, IMO.

Fill needs with FA, fill the roster with football players in the draft.

Hell, even if we're talking "need," who's going to see the field more? A #3 WR or a #4 (at best) LB?

If you guys don't believe me, would you believe Charlie Casserly? He just highlighted this as a high-value--and "good fit"--draft pick.
