As you know, I took some heat for having him as the first receiver off the board. Clearly I liked him a great deal if I had him going 11 to Buffalo. If he stays healthy, he will be an impact receiver in the NFL. Here’s the concern. He is not the type of receiver who can spread the field. You can only have some many receivers running 15 yard patterns if you hope to get any separation of defenders. To me this only means one thing. Despite the denials, the Cards are seriously considering trading Boldin.
Doucet is a fine player and easily worth this pick. He just doesn’t fit with the other two receivers.

its not even replacing BJ....the guy doesnt even have the speed of Johnson

with Cliff Avril on the board, it was a bad pick

Let's not forget that the Eagles have Carolina's 2009 1st rounder. Just maybe the Eagles are willing to package that pick for Boldin.

When I read of this pick I thought the same thing. We'll groom him for a year and if we cant make a deal with Boldin he'll be ready to step in.

The thing I cam away with while watching LSU games was that he was a really good blocker. Not much experience or production though, I think he is at minimum a year away from being able to be a starter full time. Because of that I am not so sure I see your theory, at least for this season I don't. Remember the way Boldin plays he will be injured or dinged for 3-4 games a season, they are also asking Fitz to be more physical this season, they need a capable #3 WR in the worst way because of that.

Not so sure I like a WR in the 3rd round but it was a need and 3 of my top guys were already gone in Conner, K. Smith, and Charles. So its an OK pick.

Totally agree, Harry. But, playing Devil's Advocate, could it be that the Cards are taking him as insurance and in the event he we sign boldin we just have a really, really good WR corps for a west coast style passing game (which seems to suit Leinart better than a downfield game anyway)?

Still, it concerns me that we seemingly have this potentially kick-arse passing game and a coach who is wed to "smashmouth football."

Mayhaps, he is not so wed?

I like it. I don't think they are trading Boldin part of me thinks that this is to replace BJ this year and replace Boldin next year if they can't come to terms on an extension (which I think they will). I love Q he is my favorite player in the NFL and all time on the Cards, but lets face it this is transitioning to a physical power team designed to control the clock. We will be pass happy this year and next year I see us drafting a RBOF. I really question if we will need $70 mil tied up in two WR's over the next four years if they redo Boldin contract similiar to Fitz.

I know I will get blasted but they should have traded Fitz. We could have a sick looking defensive backfield with Sheppard. Seriously think about it if we traded Fitz we could have had Sheppard, Mendenhall, C. Cambell and another player in the second round from yesterday all as first day pickups. Oh well I hate to see Q go if he does but he will be around one more year at least, but make no mistake about it the Cards chose to invest in the wrong receiver who will bolt after four years, whereas Q would have probably retired a Cardinal.

For those whining about having three "slow" WRs... what kinda offense just won the Super Bowl?

It's a total myth that you need a speed WR to make your offense work...

Larry is the deep threat, given he can go up and win any jump ball, over any CB in this league..

Stop crying.. we had no #3 WR.. and now we have one of the better receivers in this draft

Terrible pick. We needed a speed #3 WR that could stretch the field, and instead got a slow, physical, possession WR. Balls to the idea we're trading Boldin; would have happened by now if it was going to. This smells of BPA, which I usually like, but I don't think he WAS BPA. Ugh.

Your not going to get better by replacing your young stars with unproven rookies.

The Cardinals were thin behind Fitz/Boldin and both of those guys have missed games due to injury.

I am hoping it was a matter of staying true to their board.

Trading Boldin would rank up there with one of the worst moves in Cardinals history.

I love this pick. We have now drafted 2 wide receivers and now we need to draft a couple of cornerbacks and J. Lehman and this will be a GREAT! draft.

I knew that AZ was gonna address the WR position in this draft. Didnt think we'd do it in the 3rd round. Doucet is a fine player, but forgive me for not being extremely giddy about this pick.

Yes, I think that they will move our first round pick to wideout and have speed to burn. He played some wideout in his senior year and is a heck of an athlete.

You are forgiven. These are the Cards, proceed with caution.

The Cards will not trade Boldin. He is the leader of the team. Doucet is a steal in the 3rd and he will instantly become the 3rd WR making people wonder who that Johnson guy was.

I am. The prospect of having J. Urban as our 3rd WR makes me want to puke. This guy can catch the ball. I think everyone is reading WAY to much into it. This guy was picked to replace BJ there was a glaring dropoff at WR after Fitz and Q and this guy will make us deeper. Love the pick. Love this draft so far.

We should have drafted Phillip Wheeler or Cliff Avrill at OLB and maybe taken Harry Douglass at WR despite his size. I think Douglass will be a solid slot Wr ala Bobby Ingram. Doucett is a Boldin clone and Harry you could be right, this could spell the end of Q in AZ!!!

Some wideout is an overstatement. He had 1 catch.

.........because he's not a blazer, I wonder what you said when we selected a second rounder, a few years back, who ran a 4.6 forty?
