Cardinal Bob
Glutton for Punishment
Short of seeing my wife standing at the end of the aisle with her Dad on Oct. 13, 2001, this is the happiest I've ever been in my life!
I remember jumping around in our basement with my older brother as Fisk rounded the bases in 1975, only to feel like garbage two days later when the Sox lost.
I remember running home from school in 1978 to watch the playoff game against the Yanks, and how Yaz's knees buckled as Bucky "F-ing" Dent's ball settled into the net. We cried when Nettles caught Yaz's foul pop-up to end it.
I remember oh so vividly, sitting in my buddy Bill's basement in 1986, with four of our friends watching in stunned silence as the ball went through Buckner's legs and Ray Knight scored the winning run. I barely remember anything about Game 7 that year, 'cuz we were all still so stunned.
And I remember sitting in my sports den last year, watching Aaron Boone and the rest of the hated Yankees (now the choking dog Yankees) celebrate as I realized that it wasn't going to happen for the Sox yet again.
Last night I could hardly believe it was about to actually happen - 40 years of dreaming was about to come true. When Foulke gloved that one hopper, I wanted to jump through my TV and personally escort him to 1B. I still can't hardly believe that it's really true and not just another cruel dream.
The BOSTON RED SOX are World Series Champions.
