Check out these injuries. Will it ever stop?

The Diamondbacks' injury situation has been like an episode of the Twilight Zone this season.

There have been a lot of strange injuries, but the strangest of all was to minor league outfielder Jaime Jones.

Jones, who was having a solid season at Class A Lancaster, stopped at a gas station about a week ago and was leaning over to put air in the tires. An elderly woman backed over his left foot with her mini-van. There was no break, but the skin on the foot was affected, especially between the toes, forcing him to receive 12 stitches.

Jones has been walking with a protective boot. He is due to have the stitches removed soon and will begin light rehabilitation work. Jones is expected back in the lineup by the second week of July, Lancaster team spokesman Tim O'Sullivan said.

O'Sullivan said Jones told him this was the second time he has had such an incident. A friend ran over one of Jones' feet several years ago, and there was no break then.

More medical news

Lancaster lost its leadoff man, outfielder Marland Williams, for an indefinite period with an injury to his left hamate (wrist) bone. X-rays were taken, but there was no fracture. Williams, who has 33 stolen bases this season, was scheduled to travel to Tucson to be evaluated by the organization's medical staff.

• Right-hander Dustin Nippert of Class A South Bend is expected to be out at least until August after undergoing surgery to remove a benign tumor from his right shoulder.

The surgery was performed by South Bend team orthopedic surgeon Stephen Mitros. According to Tommy Jones, the Diamondbacks' director of player development, Mitros performed the same surgery several years ago on a right-handed pitcher for South Bend when it was an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.

That pitcher was Robert Ellis, who pitched for the Diamondbacks in 2001, their World Series championship season.

• Tucson left-hander Chris Capuano and right-hander Jeremy Ward are on the disabled list with shoulder soreness.

I know Brian Barden was hurt for El Paso. I forget what it is thought. Cota was also hurt for a little bit. Also Greg Aquino is on the dl. He made the all star team for them.
