You’re right it doesn’t. But to ignore the success of TWO of his predecessors in his role (Nagy AND the reigning Superbowl coach, Pederson) seems somewhat foolhardy. I throw that out there with a grain of salt given bieniemy only held OC title a single year compared to 2 for Nagy and multiple for Pederson.

That’s fair. But, he was flat out awful as the OC at Colorado when he WAS calling his own plays.

Prior to being OC with the Chiefs, wasn't his greatest claim to fame the Berman nickname? Eric "Sleeping with" Bieniemy.
He was a 2nd round pick but had an underwhelming but long (9 year) career.

Did you watch a lot of Colorado Buffalo football back then or are you going strictly by the record? Those teams were awful, they couldn’t recruit for anything while he was on the staff. For all anyone knows he made the most of what he had calling plays but just the reality was they were outclassed. I think the only thing we can gather from his time as OC there is that he does in fact have experience calling plays.

You may be absolutely correct. Colorado was a great program when Eric played & then they dropped horribly off the map. They were just awful for many years.

Yup, Neiheusal and his probation for recruiting violations.

Don’t be shocked if Bieniemy isn’t just the first of a long list to say “no” to the Cards. If you were a candidate would you trust your professional future on the premise that Keim could again build a winning roster? Keep in mind that some of the interviewees, especially the first time HCs, will surely be scared by Wilks’ fate. This is not to say Wilks shouldn’t have been fired. Taking a competent 3-4 front 7 and making them an incompetent 4-3 by itself was grounds for dismissal. He also should have been more vocal about the offensive personnel.

I’m saying no coach could have competed for a playoff spot with this roster. Even worse once they secured their QBOTF they did little to assure his success or even his safety. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a roster with one experienced RB and one proven WR. Add in no quality TEs and a weak OL. What did the Cards’ brass think would happen?

They likely will get the coach that’s left after the other jobs are filled. This is sad because the Cards have a few standout players, a decent rookie QB, ample cap space and are picking at the top of each round. This is not an empty cupboard.

I don't think that Steve Keim is an ideal GM to help an inexperienced coach find his legs as a personnel evaluator. With both Whis and Arians, Keim did the shopping, but he had a pretty detailed list of the ingredients necessary.

I'm fairly certain that part of the failure of Wilks is that he couldn't articulate what he wanted in a football player any better than he could articulate how to fix the structural problems with his defense. Keim likely did his best finding good football players, but the pieces didn't fit together well enough.

I'm pretty sure that new head coach Dan Campbell has a solid profile for the kinds of free agents he'd like to bring in on both sides of the football. Keim should be able to fill out the list.

So, when did you switch from Kliff to Dan in your preferences? And did your kids teach you that if you say something out load enough, it becomes reality?

What if every minority candidate refuses an interview? Are the Cards forbidden from hiring a coach until they do?
The NFL buys our team and puts president Camacho as head coach.

Dan Campbell is going to convince Kliff to be his OC.
The problem with KK being the OC is that if he has any type of success this season he’s likely a HC next season somewhere. Thus Josh will be on coordinator #4 in 3 years.

Can Rosen even run the Air Raid offense or some form of it? Can we assemble enough Oline & WRs in year 1 to run that offense?

People said this dumb stuff about Mike McCoy nine months ago. I don’t care much, because it means that Rosen maybe took a Great Leap Forward.

I think (hope) that Kingsbury isn’t married to a rigid offense. I think the good thing about the air raid is that you don’t need great WRs or Oline.

Do you think the true air raid would work in the NFL? I don't pretend to understand nuance of systems but wasn't Chip Kelly's offense similar to the air raid Kingsbury would employ?

I don't think that Kelly coached an Air Raid offense. It's been a while since I read Smart Football, but I think he's from a very different tradition.

I also don't know how pure the version of Air Raid Kingsbury runs. I think that you hire a good football mind and hope that he can work it out.

DUH !!!

Obviously not.

And what do you think the odds are that every black coach in the NFL and in major College programs would refuse an interview?

Black coaches are not the only minority. They can interview any Hispanic that already work in the front office to satisfy the rule, if they please. The Rooney rule served it's purpose, but as with anything meant for the well being of others people find loopholes. Or they just make a mockery of it. It a shame that in this day and age we can't just judge people on their own merit, and not by their looks, religion, or the color of their skin.

Who are they going to interview then?

All fine, but you live in Trump's America and to suggest that the Rooney Rule is simply a relic of the past is less than convincing.

I don't know, who is to say that they haven't satisfied it already? They said they were keeping it close to the vest. They could have interviewed anyone already on staff without us knowing it.

New part of the rule...can’t be part of current staff to satisfy rule unless they are part of the top list of candidates. We don’t have anyone that meets that criteria.

Are they keeping it close to the vest...feels like all interviews are public?

Kinda of sucks when you attempt to live up to the spirit of Rooney Rule and a candidate declines an interview.
