Best performance in both the scrimmage and tonight's game. Like I keep saying, he's going to be a great player for us and I believe that he'll be starting for us at some point in the season. Scobey didn't do crap tonight on offense... He's got zero moves when he hits the hole. But Croom, he had a few nice jukes on defenders.

I think Croom has showed me the best stuff thus far so I would be willing to have him start. However, he was playing 3rd stringers tonite. So I reserve judgement at this point. Emmitt did damn well too tonite.

BIg kid, Fast to the hole, has nice moves..BUT..Played against the third string line. I will be more impressed if he can do it with the first or second string. I also believe the kid has some raw talent.

I was also very impressed with Emmitt. I was excited to see him picking up some decent gains and finding his holes well.

I thought Croom looked great. True, it was against the 3rd string, but juking linebackers is juking linebackers.

It looks like he has size, speed, quickness, and vision.

What's not to love?

Sorry Larry but I remember the WR we sent to NFL Europe that tore up that league but couldn't crack the starting line up for us. Its was against 3rd stringers I know, I'll give him props.

I agree Croom looked good but on this team without Emmit back there for the first few games at least our QB is going to die.

Remeber that Tice had his 1st team Defense in their when Croom was running for all those yards mostly. Also Croom can catch the ball very well.

Hey guy's how good can our so called NFL insider MJ be. He has never if even Mentioned Croom during this preseason. MJ a real ass-est to us Card fans. MJ sucks and so does Lewis.

Insiders- bull-**** they couldn't tell talent if it hit them in the mouth.

P.S. Good post on Croom SameOleGee. Sorry for going off on a rant on MJ. but let us get real he isn't a Card loyalist. Just a dumb ****** from Western N.Y.

I guess you guys just bought what the announcers were saying hook line and sinker.

Croom had very little vision, ran to the right of the center when to the left he could have walked 40 yards. (BTW just got done watching the game).

Croom wasnt spectacular picking up the blitz. Remember guys that will be a VERY important job for the starting rb this year. Smith is maybe the best ever at it.

If anyone looked like they had vision, speed, and moves it was anderson.

Ahhh yes. The preseason. The place where UDFA 4th string RBs get annointed to the Hall of Fame based on a Saturday in August.

Sorry guys, but Croom is simply put, the 4th best RB currently on this team. He is not better than Scobey. He is not better than Anderson. He isn't even better than a declining abilities Smith. If he was better, he would have been a drafted RB.

His chance to make this team this year is as a special teams player otherwise he is practice squad at best and maybe an outright cut.

Does this mean he cannot someday become a very good RB? No. There may be a time where we say "I knew him when..." but at this point he will be lucky to make the team.

As an aside, yesterday on the radio, Brian Baldinger was breaking down the NFC West and he was very high on Anderson and said something to the effect that the Cards had a player in Anderson who is special and nobody knows it. Just an FYI on what others think.

Croom runs a bit like Priest Holmes IMO. I don't see what draft status has to do with it and no until he does it on Sunday's against live fire who knows but based on what I have seen so far he needs to at least get a few carries sometimes guys get into the league that way.

Like Priest Holmes.

Anderson is a gem. He should be carrying the ball 10-15 times per game. It
just kills me to see players who never get a chance to play for teams that
they been on for several seasons...Jake delhomme, Bert Berry, Priest Holmes,
and so on. Teams do not no what they had until they leave in Free-agency.

I totally agree and if you are ever going to do that you do that the most in your first year with a team when you have some honeymoon time left.

I think it can be worked in better than most coaches do but they live for today and that leads to guys getting all the snaps because they are known quantities.

That makes sense when you have Marshal Faulk but otherwise in our situation I think everyone should get at least a shot to see what they can do in a game.

Croom had good "quicks" and looks like he can catch the ball. He did bounce outside a couple of times when he should of just hit it hard up the middle where the play was designed. Anderson looked good. I didn't see much of Scobey.

Right now, my depth chart would be:Emmitt, Croom, Anderson and Scobey.

I'm not sure Croom is adept enough at blitz pickup to start ahead of Emmitt. I also think Emmitt, despite his age, still has enough left to be a slightly bigger and better runner than Larry is right now.

But as we've seen thus far this season, durability will play a big role on who gets the most touches. And don't discount the potential value of Anderson (whom I like to refer to as "Emmitt Lite.").

Best run last night against the Vikes was the final Croom carry where he scooted like a waterbug off left tackle for a nice gain.(Next two best runs were Emmitt's two sprint draws).

Like Priest Holmes.

Placing the Holmes comparison aside, let's discuss his draft status as it rlates to him being named a starter right now.

Doesn't it stand to reason that, if Croom were truly an NFL starting caliber RB. that he would have been drafted in what I preceived as a very shallow RB pool in the last draft? I mean, it isn't like he went to Sioux Falls Astrophysics University and slipped under the radar of the scouts. He played in a D1 program and I saw him play 3 times last year myself. My guess is most scouts knew of him and his ability. So, while at the end of a career where a player is drafted may be meaningless, I think it is very meaningful when discussing whether or not Croom should be the STARTER this year.

Did Holmes start as a rookie? I don't recall but I don't think he did. He didn't bloom until he got to KC as I recall. Otherwise he was always second fiddle.

I do not deny the fact that Croom could end up a very good back to to me it is laughable to think he is starting material right now in the NFL. And I do agree that until he does it against starting line talent we may never know what he can and cannot do.

I don't even think he is in the top 3 RBs on this team.

Croom is not ready unless the ultimate goal is to actually kill McCown...in which case start the UDFA.

I just think that paying attention to draft status isn't very telling. I think Terrell Davis was like a 5th round or lower pick.

I believe Priest was stuck behind Jamal Lewis if I'm not mistaken but it's possible he was there a year before.

To me your draft order only means what you are paid but after that it is what you show on the field. It is possible he was just missed it happens and from what I saw I'd say it's fairly likely he was.

I was just saying play him a lot in the preseason some few plays with the first unit and then if he still looks good give him some real game carries but after that he'd have to earn the spot not just be given it.

I said the same thing about Emmitt he's going to save the QB's life back there at least the first 5 games or so. Without him our QB will be dead by halftime.

I dont think people think about this enough. This is 100% true. Id sit my boy Shipp for Smith in this offense with this line.

But if you agree with Abz what ever you are a very poor judge of talent. Which now you just really proved to me and most people on this forum.
