Remeber the returner/wr that couldn't catch a pass in college but we were happy yo have him as return man and then he blossomed into our third 1000 yrd receiver? Wonder if lightning can strike twice with 4.2 Garvin. Give me three plays a game at WR and Hester like return production and we'll find a roster spot.

I would be thrilled if he becomes an impact returner.

I am not about to anoint him the next Arnold Jackson(I thought he was gonna be great)

I'm assuming you mean Garvin for Breaston in the return game only and not at WR.

When considering Breaston and Garvin as wideouts, I think we're comparing apples to mango's. Breaston is a slender 6-0 190. Garvin is more of a 5-8 182 fireplug/waterbug.

Should he make the roster, Garvin would add a Devon Hester component to a receiving/return corps comprised of guys who are 6-3, 6-0½, 6-0, 6-3 and (depending who sticks) 5-11½ and 6-0.

I'm excited about Garvin's gamebreaking potential. Should he deliver on that promise, Coach Wiz may have the dicey dilemma of having to choose between (a) adding the home-run capability of Garvin or (b) retaining the ST coverage skill and experience of Sean Morey.

If this guy can step into the return man, you can bet Whiz will find 1 or 2 plays a game to utilize his speed. He did it with DRC. He did it with Rolle, and you can bet he will do it with him and his 4.2 speed. ala Darin Sproles.

Garvin brings a lot of excitement with his speed & proven return numbers in college.

He is short but is very well built.

One thing is for sure. The speed factor has greatly improved on this team and we needed that for sure.

Yes Garvin as a returner but if he sticks you know Wiz will not be able to resist putting a 4.2 40 guy with a 36" vertical jump at WR for a few plays a year.

Whiz can subtract almost anywhere in the lineup to keep Garvin.

With Fitz, Boldin, Breaston, and Doucet I'm not too worried about his skills as a receiver. If he makes the team and can make an impact returning, I'll be mo re than happy.

I pray that Garvin and LS-H both make it on the team; it will better our return ability, and overall team speed by 4%. Shane, Ill betyou 100,000 af$n that if Garvin stays healthy and gets a fair chance[Whizz's term of fairness-whether he's cut or not..]he'll be the #1 ko returner in Game 1..Whatdoyouthink, Deah?

So the next Breaston? I think no.. But he may help speed the development of Breaston by freeing him from the ST and bring Breaston to a new level as a WR; That's very possible, even likely.
Early Doucet is going to get a lot more work this summer with Boldin out which is a good thing, I want to see him add 10-12 #of muscle..I kept hearing how physical he was etc..like Boldin, blah blah, NO. Kid's got a long way to go to be drawing those comparisons. He can be a player for us though, we all can see that.
Run Garvin on 3 Strategic fly patterns a game, with Fitz drawing the double on the other side, Boldin and breaston in the slot-Boldin underneath15-18 yds, breaston behind Garvin clearing out the sideline Give him 50 -100 post and fly patterns per practice and let him loose on the world, much like we will with Beanie.. When Whizz says!!....

considering that Garvin wasn't a receiver in college, I'd think he has much farther to go than Breaston. I also wonder why FSU never tried to get him the ball on offense.

And here is a very likely reason that we're seeing more of these guys being picked up by the Cardinals:

From the recent article on the change in the kick return "wedge" rule limiting the wedge to less than 3 players.

"But now you might find teams going to smaller, quicker, faster guys because there will be more single blocks."

I would LOVE if Garvin developed pass catching, but even if he doesn't I think he as a spot on this roster for the next 5-8 years because he is the most dangerous returner we have had this decade IMO.

No he isnt. He isnt the most dangerous anything at this point. He has to prove it against NFL ST's before we can even begin to say that. 1 TD in 4 years of college isnt all that promising IMO.

Its funny how a few people have said "this guy will run a few back for sure" or something to that affect when he rarely ever did it in a lesser league!

There is more to being a good KR than running it back Shane. His average per return speaks for itself. Yes he hasn't proven it yet, but we have pretty much had crap at KR this decade.

I'd rather have someone who consistently got 30 yards a return than someone who runs it back 2 times in a year but fumbles/muffs multiple times and goes down on the first hit often before the 20 yard line like JJ did last year. You could argue that JJ might have cost us more points than he gained us due to that last year but it can't be proven.

And the "he didn't do it against lesser talent" argument is a very poor one, because he also had a much weaker blocking unit on his side of the field than he will have in the NFL.

With the weather conditions not expected to be ideal for passing anyways,
fantasy owners need to prepare to be without him. Steve Breaston is next up on

Sorry for the horribly late quote since I didn't see it, but Breaston is #5 on UM's all-time leaders in receptions. In the company of Braylon Edwards, Amani Toomer, Anthony Carter, Marquise Walker and David Terrell. I think he could catch a pass in college.

I hope Garvin explodes onto the scene on STs, much as Boldin did his rookie year at WR.. That would be worth some Kool Aide!!

We just need this guy to return kicks at this point. I really don't want any part of him playing wide out, as we are already very deep at that position.

Our return game for a few years has been hit or miss and I like that Whiz is taking some time to implement competition at that position, as I think one spot on the roster will be exclusively allocated to PR/KR

For a good team we are lacking a good returner. Garvin has the speed, and a good return average in college. So he has a shot. I hope it works out.
