I move that we make it a Condiment Law that Miracle Whip is not a condiment since it says salad dressing on the label.

But if I am eating beef than it is A1 Steak Sauce all the way.

I feel strongly about A1 Steak Sauce. I feel it masks the flavor of the meat. I always say "If you are using A1, spend a couple extra bucks and buy a better cut of meat.".

Correct, but only if used as such. Same with dressing/stuffing. My favorite sandwich of the year occurs after T-Day.

From top to bottom;

Slice of Mrs. D-Dogg's mother's homemade bread
Mayonnaise
layer of cranberry sauce
layer of stuffing
turkey
gravy
turkey
Mayonnaise
Slice of Mrs. D-Dogg's mother's homemade bread
Yeah, but just cause it goes on a sandwich doesn't make it a condiment. Turkey isn't a condiment.

By the same logic as my previous post, neither is stuffing or cranberry sauce. Those are sides.

Manlaw?

You've redeemed yourself a bit with this post, kid. Good job.

Interesting. See, need a separate thread for that as well.

What about Peanut Butter?

Yup...that's how I feel. Something that GOES ON something=condiment.

Something that can not be consumed alone without looking like a freak.

That is a great definition.

That's tricky. I might actually consider sitting down and eating some peanut butter. But, more importantly, I most certainly would eat a peanut butter sandwich...but never a mustard or Ketchup snadwich.

I say no. Peanut butter is not a condiment...but it's maybe as close to a condiment as you can get without actually being one.

In college, I ate bbq sauce sandwiches. That was not good.

What about butter on the bread? Is that a condiment?

I say yes because it would allow us to explore the differences and benefits of butter, margarine, Country Crock, etc.

Pariah, That brings me back to melted cheese. One can eat cheese by itself, but one would not necessarily eat melted cheese by itself.

Miracle Whip IS a condiment, because it is purchased in the "condiment" aisle at the grocery store. Butter, of course, is an exception due to the refrigeration aspect.

Salad dressing is also a condiment.

1000 Island + Pastrami + Kraut = Rueben = YUMMY-LICIOUS

I don't think cheese as a solid is a condiment, but it probably is in a liquid state. Looking at it in this light, cheese may be the most chameleon-like food on the table. It most certainly crosses over to the "dip" category as well.
