CHIDI AHANOTU (sp) is sitting up in Toronto waiting for a call. I saw him in Buffalo last year, and he's solid against the run from LDE and can put on a bit on pressure...

Separating fact from speculation -

Fact:

- KVB's X-Rays were negative.

- They're still pretty sure there's ligament damage of some kind.

- They really won't know specifics until they do an MRI.

Speculation:

- We don't know how bad the tear was or what ligament is torn.

- KVB COULD be done for the year, but that's speculation by Pasch and Mistler.

- My own speculation as to a replacement for KVB.

(1) Wakefield probably now starts again on the left side.

(2) But Ken King would be an ideal starter on the left side - he can anchor against the run and also get after the passer.

(3)If King switches to the left side, it means there's a blank on the depth chart behind Pace on the right side. This gives new life to Dennis Johnson, Alton Moore or Dennis Quinn.

Its a damn shame when these injuries happen in a meaningless pre-season game. With that said, the Cardinals have the cap space to help overcome this loss. KVB is a great player so he will be hard to replace but hopefully bringing in a veteran will ease the pain a bit (no pun intended).

Go Cards/ America!

It's pretty easy to diagnose a tear though. The knee has a bunch of "wobble" in it when it is moved. I imagine this how the trainers diagnosed it. But, yes, there is still a small chance it isn't as bad as we all fear.

This is a brutal game. That's why the players are right to get as much up front money as they can.

On a related note, were those of you who saw the Dallas game on tape as impressed with Alton Moore as I was? I really think Dennis Johnson will be cut this year.

Alton Moore looked good again last night. Though with KVB going down now, I'd imagine that Dennis Johnson will make the squad now. He looked at least acceptable yesterday.

I didnt notice Moore in the Dallas game, but I was impressed with him in this game... He looked solid, and is a perfect size/speed for DE.

I disagree. The loss of KVB is huge. Big things were expected of him this year, and we don't have THAT much depth at DE.
I do think the inury is HUGE, but you are right, I havent even noticed KVB yet in the last two games. Same goes for Bryant.

King & Pace look better than those two sofar IMO.

Yeah, so would Duane Clemons or Steve White. The Cards should seriously ponder moving to the 30 base set full-time.

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I honestly don't view this as a huge loss.

Between Wakefield and King, we should be ok. KVB really has never done anything to warrant the love fest that the fans have for him. Sure, he plays hard and he's white, but other than that, he isn't a very good starting defensive end.

Wakefield is practically the same player, and I think that Kenny King could be better than Wakefield, since he seems to move better.

Sorry krang but you're way off here - Wakefield is no KVB. But I agree king could develop into something special or at the least a dependable player.

How am I way off on this? And please don't say sorry, you have nothing to be sorry for. :D

KVB has never done anything in this league. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Both KVB and Wakefield are good backup run down ends, but nothing else. King and Wakefield will be good enough that we won't miss KVB.

Bryant had a good game against the Cowboys!

And Krang I agree!

Well I did notice that Bryant was getting a good push up the middle, but just like in the Cowboys game, he was being held quite a bit.

KVB is better than Wakefield, jusrt because of his motor and his leadership by example.

But Krang, I agree partially.

I think he is better than Wakefield, but it isn't a huge difference. KVB can still be a leader on the sidelines...

I honestly think that King could step in and surprise.

I look at it a bit differently. According to Mac, this injury wasn't from contact; it was just KVB trying to plant the leg doing a normal thing.

The Football Gods' injury "roulette wheel just kept going round and round and once again stopped at Vanden Bosch.

That knee was a walking time bomb - if not now, maybe in the next game or the next game or the next.

I only have lay knowledge of medicine, but one troubling thing is that I've heard that if something goes wrong with one extremity, it's likely that it could happen on the opposite side - either because the body tries to compensate for the injured limb or because the opposite limb shares the same congenital weakness.

So why, then, weren't the Cardinal trainers more "paranoid" about this - i.e. why wasn't KVB wearing knee braces on both legs?

I posted on another thread after the game that alton moore played well again..Skorp mentioned him in this thread and I wanted to add on..

Alton has pretty much exact specifications (size, speed, strength)you want in a defensive end. Alton is on the light side - but he looks alot heavier to me than the cardinals list him (255 lbs). I think he is strong enough..I have seen him in training camp grab huge offensive lineman and throw them aside (i.e. he appears to be strong enough to play the position) His big disadvantage over the other guys in the battle for the 2nd starting spot (wakefield, KVB - now injured, Johnson and King) is the complete lack of playing time - both in the pros and at a major college football program. He played 2 years at a junior college - then 2 years at Auburn. Due to a late start (came in as a Junior) at auburn and being raw - he was part of a rotation. Last season he was injured in the 1st or 2nd preaseason game.

There is another guy on the defense who I was high on who has the specs you want (size, speed, strength)..Rhett Nelson.. But after watching rhett play at camp and in the preseason I would be shocked if he made even the practice squad. Rhett does not seem to be able to make a play on the ball... I do not think this is the case with Alton - he seems to be able to get to the action pretty quickly... I would let alton moore play like 3 quarters in the next 2 games and see what he has got. He is the kind of guy who could be a late bloomer to the game - he was a tall skinny kid who was a very good basketball player...He looks like he gained a few lbs of muscle this offseason - which is what he needed.

A couple of reporters mouth some opinions and judgements, and everybody goes bonkers.

How about you all wait until something is officially determined, one way or the other before writing KVB off in any way.

Amazing, simply amazing.

Dude I hope you are right.

He is not right. Tango was just blowing hot air. It had already been reported that he blew out his knee, yet Tango felt the need to be a jerk about it.

Heck, when I saw the replay, I immediately said he blew his knee out, it was that obvious.
