I should not also nice to see that Anquan, Berry, and Bridges are all doing the same thing on their own as well. Good stuff! Happy for the kids!

Eh...call me a cynic. He does donates $5k with media attention...Adub donates $30k in footwear & not a soul around.

It's a tax break. All of them do it, in varying degrees. They choose what's important to them, yes, and then get the tax write-off.

But the key is that they do it. They dont have to. Plus what do you mean by media? Was there a news story on it in the valley?

Darren Urban is media.

No, they don't have to...but they sure don't want to pay it all in taxes, either.

I dont really consider Urban "media" he is the Cardinals insider and paid by the Cards and is supposed to report all of this stuff and anything that makes the players and the team look good IMO. I dont really think Fitz and Q do theirs for media attention but Urban is still there for their stuff.

However with DD you could be right of course :)

Plus I don't know about you but I would rather make the money and pay the taxes than not make the money at all.

If anything, it's even moreso, because it's his JOB to report on the good things going on/make the Cards & players look good.

And, interestingly enough, the EXACT same article is elsewhere, credited to a different author. http://www.examiner.com/x-27186-Ari...ason-Dockett-sponsors-shopping-spree-for-kids

So who really wrote it? Is it just a press release? If so, proves my "media" point even more.

He could also donate the money without showing up himself if all he wanted was a tax break. I think he really does enjoy being able to help these kids. I am not saying that he is Saint Darnell by any means, but this is a nice gesture regardless of what way you look at it.

Its not credited to another author. This was at the very top of that article:

The Arizona Cardinals players are certainly getting in the holiday spirit. Players are donating their time and resources to help make Christmas more enjoyable for those less fortunate. The following article appeared on the Arizona Cardinals website, www.AZCardinals.com:

So its just another guy riding Urban's coat tails.

No, what is at the very top of the article is this:
Arizona Cardinals players generous during holiday season: Dockett sponsors shopping spree for kids December 17, 8:13 AM

I missed the next part since I didn't need to read it again. I agree, it was just copied from Darren Urban...but they should have made that more clear at the byline.

Dockett is awesome. He doesn't just do stuff for charity and tax write offs. He does crazy stuff like this all the time. He tweets about it frequently, telling people that follow him on twitter to meet him at the movies or a restaurant and he'll pick up the tab.

I love 9-0. :D

Seriously. :) I haven't met him anywhere yet (I was sick the last time he did something close by my place), but I hope to someday. He seems like he just wants to have a good time. I appreciate that in a person, lol.

He did Tweet himslef a few pats on the back for this as well. Not saying that it diminishes the action, but it is clearly improtant to him that everyone know that he did it with his own time and money and with no sponsor support.

Yeah, I read about a tweet (after the fact) from Nine-0 about a week or so ago. Basically, Dockett tweeted that he was going to be at Lo-lo's in about an hour and he was buyin' for anyone that cared to join him!

Pretty cool.

Not really. First off, it is a deduction off marginal, so say he spent 5K, that is still over 3K out of his own pocket. The guy makes $3.5M per or so, so money is not an incentive.

More importantly NFL players work a 6-day week and often do community work or heal during their 1 day off. For him to spend it with kids is commendable.

That said, I follow him on twitter and he is kind of nuts.

Those kids will have the memory of Christmas shopping with some real, live, Arizona Cardinals football players for the rest of their lives. Think about how special that is.

I *tsk, tsk* Darnell a lot because I don't think he has a mute button, but I give him all the credit in the world for doing this. Those kids are never going to forget this. If we're lucky one of them might just decide to make something of their own life so that he/she can do the same some day.

It's just a cool thing for Darnell and the other men to do. Good for them!

I can affirm Darnell's intentions are sincere. He actually DOES charity stuff that's NOT covered by the media (or the Cardinals PR department) back in Atlanta. He's definitely got some thug in him, but he's not a bad guy, and when it comes to kids from rough backgrounds like him, he can be uncommonly gentle and charitable. He's incredibly gregarious when he's not talking about football.

This is a commendable act, but it really makes me laugh. Mr. "I can't afford to fly my family out for Thanksgiving so I need a new contract" apparently cares more about random kids than his own family LOL

I don't care what the reason. All that's important is they are giving to people who need the help. That's all that really matters. Actually I think they all can do 10-15K and not miss a beat. For some their heart is in the right place for others there are other motives.

All I care about is they do it.
