Update: Only 8 teams have won the last 31 NBA titles (Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Rockets, Pistons, 76ers, Bulls, and Heat).

This year: 6 of those 8 made the playoffs (all but the Rockets and Pistons). 4 of them are still playing. (Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, and Heat).

Irony: Gee started this thread and he is pulling FOR one of those teams. :D

Its not ironic, in fact its because of this Im pulling for the Heat.. they went and made a team to get around all these teams winning every year.. no one wanted the big 3 together.. they are not playing by Sterns rules.. and they are the only team out of 7 teams in 25 years to only win 1 title.. the rest have multiple.. and it pisses off laker fans.. i stated these things in my thread about the Heat..

There are 8 in 31 if you include the 76ers and they've only won once in that stretch as well.

The last franchise to win it besides one of those 8 is still alive in the postseason also. :D

BTW: A lot of NBA fans are pulling against the Heat...not just Lakers fans. They don't "piss me off" at all. They (as a franchise) have only had a small taste of what we have had for years so why would that bother me? I just don't like HOW LBJ handled his leaving. Should have been up front from the start...and I still believe he would have been better off going to Chicago in the long run.

In the past 25 years the 76ers arent a part of that.. you added that yourself..

BTW.. This past year has taken a weird turn for me.. I have become more aware that the NBA is a joke and have watched the Heat so much and they fun to watch.. LBJ is the complete player, ultimate team player.. I think I may just get a #6 or #0 Heat jersey.. This way I can watch the NBA the way Stern intended.. Rooting for one of the choosen few and actually have a chance to win..

and.. F Rondo..

I didn't add it myself - it's the facts. It has been mentioned on many of the NBA broadcasts this postseason and addressed by the press in many articles. Going back 25 years is pretty amazing but it is no less amazing that if you go back another 6 years - it only adds one different team.

So go back in the past 25 years and show me where the 76ers won a championship..

I just explained it and further explained that the stat all of the NBA pundits are using these days is the "8 teams in the last 31 years" one - how hard is that to comprehend?

In your example it is "7 teams in 25 years." Going back another 6 years only adds one team to the mix so "8 in 31" is just as impressive or even more impressive than "7 in 25."

The point of this thread is the past 25 years.. When Stern took over.. The 76ers havent won a championship under Sterns reign..

And it has already been pointed out that most of the titles before Stern were also won by a small handful of teams as well. So no big deal in the end.

I think only about 14 teams have won ALL of the league's titles.

And that makes it ok? Stern is in charge right now.. And it hasnt been any different.. And I dont think we can really bring the past up before Stern.. The NBA back then was a handful of teams before Stern led the expansion charge.. Then tried to lead the international agenda..

Im ready for this fight BIM..

Your move.. :D

The thing that makes me laugh is how sensitive (SOME not ALL) of the Laker fans are about people giving them a hard time.

I mean when you are at the top of the mountain that long, you have to expect that people are going to rejoice when you lose.

Laker fans are that way and Niner fans are that way.

For example: I have a brother in law who is a huge Cowboys fan. When they suck I always razz him and he always takes it in good nature saying; "yeah we suck this year, it's really disappointing."

I have a friend who is a Steeler fan and she is the exact same way, when I gave her a hard time after the superbowl she was like; "Yeah I know I cant believe we blew that game."

Classy on both counts.

Now, give a Laker fan a hard time about being down 0-3 and 75% of the time you'll get some over sensitive, bull crap remark like. "Screw you, your team sucks, you've never won anything, we got screwed by the refs, your city is a crap hole."

Same with Niner fans. Give a Niner fan a hard time and 80% of the time you hear; "WE HAVE 5 RINGS SO SCREW YOU."

I just have never seen fans with so little character and so little tolerance for being razzed (even playfully) about their team finally losing. It's sad really. It just goes to show that most Laker fans are Laker fans because they win and when their team DOESN'T win, they get pissed and take it off on other fans instead of just MANNING UP and taking their medicine like everone else.

I'm not talking about the douches who go "Derr the Lakers are Fakers" those guys deserve to get a verbal smackdown. But someone who says; "Hey dude too bad the Lakers are down 0-3, what happened???" and the Laker fan blows them up and says "Derrr how many championships do you have." That's just lame. Everyone loses at some point, dont be a dick about it, just take your turn and live with the comfort that your team will win another before their team does.

It's easy to be a fan of these teams so dont take the easy way out when times get hard. It's lame.

Bert - I'm a total homer that thinks we're coming back so I keep telling everyone "It's not over until we are eliminated."

What gets tiring is the people that come out of the woodwork to try and rile you up when your team loses. People that don't even follow the NBA but know you're a Lakers fan are suddenly in your grill saying "How about your Lakers, eh?" So then you politely try and talk basketball with them and they say "Oh, I don't follow the NBA that closely."

In reference to your examples, as a Cards fan - I have NEVER come across the two fans you mentioned (specifically their reaction to criticism of their team...). A decent Cowboys fan and a decent Steelers fan? Are you kidding me? They are almost all in-your-face and all about asking how many Super Bowls the Cards have won.

Well Brian it may be a case of, and I'll give you this, that I dont talk smack. If the Steelers/Cowboys/Lakers lose, I'll give those fans a hard time but I'm not going to say anything moronic like "The lakers are fakers" or whatever, I've seen the douches that post on your facebook page and on Ashers. So maybe I get classy responses because I come with respect. But even then you'll still get those fans that say; "Say whatever you want we still have 5 rings and you dont have crap you loser!" that may be true, as a Cardinals and Suns fan I dont have any rings but thats not my fault. It was simply the luck of the draw. My dad raised me to root for the underdog local team, your dad raised you to root for the Lakers or Steelers. I still dont understand why it gets so personal but oh well, I guess that's the nature of people.

PS The Cowboy fans I encountered out of the stadium last season, totally fine. They were just bummed that they lost to us. (please observe what you have done to me Brian, I am defending freaking Cowboy fans at this point, but the truth is the truth as far as what I experienced)

I dont know how the Raider fans were because I didn't make eye contact cuz I didn't want to get stabbed after we beat them.

So there ya go. Maybe it's a California thing? lol:mulli:

Ok well then you were just wiser than me when we were kids and you decided to take the Laker fan route where I sheepishly followed my dad and rooted for his teams.

Thanks, I think. :D

I totally get the reason behind the attitude I get from some people when they hear I'm a Lakers fan. They have already formed an opinion of what that means in their mind.

There's a huge difference between an old school Lakers fan and the newer crop of fans. I'm with them win or lose. But seriously these recent title runs aren't even that exciting for an old school fan - except for our rivalry with the Celtics getting a postseason rebirth.

It's frustrating to see the team dominate at times and look lost other times. So much talent and they look like crap quite often - even during the last two title runs (and especially the year before when we folded to the Celtics).

It's kind of ironic too because the Lakers I first followed were pre-Showtime and my favorite player was Norm Nixon. The Suns had just been in the Finals and lost to the Celtics, etc. So if I was the type to hop on a bandwagon at the time I'd have likely chosen the Suns. LOL

lol well good call BIM.

Cant argue with the results, it's kinda like you invested your money in Microsoft while I decided to stick it out with Commodore cuz they had some really promising things coming up! lol

I think only about 14 teams have won ALL of the league's titles.

There hasn't always been 30 teams vying for the title, though. In fact, until 1975 there were 18 or fewer teams total. From 1953 to 1966 there were fewer than 10 teams (10 of Boston's titles were won during this period). When Stern became commissioner in 1984, there were only 23 teams.

Interesting--I was actually just thinking about this thread over the weekend. I made the point that the Lakers had gotten Wilt, Kareem, and O'Neal without drafting them. Now what? We're already talking about Howard going there. (Or Deron Williams, or Chris Paul, or 2 of the 3).

They have to pay them, but then, few teams are in a position to take them on without moves. The Suns could use Howard and trade Gortat, and the Suns could use Chris Paul or Deron Williams to succeed Nash. But does anyone think it could happen with the Lakers out there having similar needs?

Well, except for PF. Gasol may have disappeared this year, but I still think that transaction remains league-changing.

It's only going to get better in the next few years with the new super team fad, there might not be a reason to watch anymore if you're a fan of a small market team. I'm a Lebron fan though so I will support him in his upcoming 6peat. :)

It's impossible for me to not follow the Suns. But they will lose me for weekend TV games and later playoff rounds if it's always the same teams.
