The Pink Panther Pushed Back to 2006
Source: Variety
June 7, 2005

Sony Pictures has once again changed the release date for The Pink Panther. The Shawn Levy-directed comedy remake, starring Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyoncé Knowles and Jean Reno, will now open on February 10, 2006.

The studio has had good luck with the Valentine's Day date, as both Hitch and 50 First Dates debuted there.

Distribution president Rory Bruer tells Variety that the move will give the studio, which inherited the project from MGM, a chance to develop its marketing effort.

"We've seen the film and we're really excited," he said. "We have an opportunity to really have a good, fresh start of the 'Pink Panther' franchise. We want the time to put together a proper campaign for it."

Wow, that was a pretty close call, considering all the advertising it's been getting.

But in hindsight, it was probably a good idea, I had picked it as one of the big disappointments this summer.

Hey Steve Martin, you are not Peter Sellers. The previews are enough for me to stay away.

How about a big NO THANK YOU. Remake bad movies. A remake of Casino Royale is a smart remake. A remake of a classic like this is idiotic.

I'm confused - are you saying the originals were bad or a classic?

The problem I have with this remake isn't that it's a remake of The Pink Panther (which is not exactly a great movie in its own right), the problem is trying to replace Peter Sellers, who IS Inspector Clouseau. He wasn't even that major of a character in the original. It was when they gave him free reign in Shot In The Dark when the series started going. (Shot in the Dark IS a classic, however)

Pretty entertaining. Steve Martin is hillarious.

I went into this movie with the idea that it was a stand alone movie not related to the classics which I love to this date. It was only related in name only. I didnt think of it as a remake really.

Anyways it was very enjoyable fun film.

Shot in the Dark is the best one in the series IMHO.

To this day I remember the line "you arrived home, found Miguel with Maria Gambrelli, and killed him in a rit of fealous jage." The way he delivers that line is a classic.

I love Steve martin but I seriously doubt he can hold up to Peter Sellers.

I love the line from, I think it was Revenge...'Does your dog bite?' 'No.' 'Good doggie'--bends to pet and the dog bites him. 'I thought you said your dog didn't bite?' 'But that's not my dog!'

I just watched it. It was pretty dumb, but it was also funny at times. I haven’t seen the original, so I didn’t have to worry about being let down by being a remake.
