I've loved this band ever since I can remember... I still often wonder "what if" regarding them.... True they did acheive quite a bit of a long of success, however, just if Sting's ego didnt interfere..this band could have possibly acheived some amazing heights that a rare few bands have....
Yes, they somewhat were responsible for pioneering ska/reggae music, but if one listens to their final studio album "Synchronicity" this band was heading into a more progressive-sounding direction... With Stewart Copeland assault on the drums, Sting's steady bass playing, and Andy Summers more than adequate guitar playing..I often how much their sound would have continued to have evolved since from album-to-album would some how always manage to branch-out and explore depths that they didnt before.....
My favorite Police album of all-time is "Ghost in the Machine" followed by "Zenyatta Mondatta"....
I often wish that they'd set aside their differences (or Sting check his ego at the door) and reunite long enough (I know they've had some immediately aborted attempts) to go on tour and record a new album, but perhaps the latter isnt possible since Sting went so drastically away from his earlier roots that there is possibly no point of return for him..... I mean.. with "Live Aid 2") coming-up, wouldnt this be the best possible moment for them to reform?
