The quest for a back-up point guard

If you had $2M+ to spend on a back-up point guard for the Suns, who would you sign?

There seems to be a lot of excitement about the possibility of bringing Dragic over this year. Personally, I am curious about what this kid can show, but at the same time, all this hype for a late second-round rookie that hardly any other team even looked at? The Suns were the only team to bring Dragic in for a workout. And I don't really buy the argument that other teams were scared away by his contract status, because many teams often use a second-round pick on a player who may not be available for several years. If Dragic is really as good as advertised (by the Suns management), why were the Suns the only team to see and invest in his potential?

It appears now almost certain that if the Suns are to have Dragic this season they will need to pay him around $2M - $2.5M a year (and double that next season due to LT). That is a lot more money than the Suns were offering other players like Lue or Williams, maybe enough to keep Arroyo in the league or even to sign Pargo. I raised this question in another thread, but I have to ask again: is Dragic really the best option for the Suns this coming season? If the Suns were to invest that kind of money into a back-up point guard who can help immediately, weren't there better options available? I don't really like Lue or Williams and I don't think either is worth the money, but you would think that someone like Pargo would have a much greater immediate impact than a prospect like Dragic. Or maybe Dragic is really that good. The management seem to think so, and are willing to pay a lot of money for the chance to be proven right.

If one believes Dragic has the ability to play backup PG now and be the point guard of the future you do it. The Suns will need find a future replacement for Nash so this might be their best shot. There are no guarantees but the Suns must believe he is the real deal.

I believe it when I see it. After this whole debacle, I probably would have lost patience (and in my mind, setting up as security) and signed Pargo.

Simple answer. The Suns think he is worth the gamble. Therefore, are willing to spend luxury tax money on him.

Sarver is spending luxury tax money on a backup point. I don't see the cause for concern. They are going after who they want with a big enough offer to get it done and not lowball.

I'm willing to be open-minded about Dragic because they are so motivated to get him specifically.
