There seems to be a lot of excitement about the possibility of bringing Dragic over this year. Personally, I am curious about what this kid can show, but at the same time, all this hype for a late second-round rookie that hardly any other team even looked at? The Suns were the only team to bring Dragic in for a workout. And I don't really buy the argument that other teams were scared away by his contract status, because many teams often use a second-round pick on a player who may not be available for several years. If Dragic is really as good as advertised (by the Suns management), why were the Suns the only team to see and invest in his potential?
It appears now almost certain that if the Suns are to have Dragic this season they will need to pay him around $2M - $2.5M a year (and double that next season due to LT). That is a lot more money than the Suns were offering other players like Lue or Williams, maybe enough to keep Arroyo in the league or even to sign Pargo. I raised this question in another thread, but I have to ask again: is Dragic really the best option for the Suns this coming season? If the Suns were to invest that kind of money into a back-up point guard who can help immediately, weren't there better options available? I don't really like Lue or Williams and I don't think either is worth the money, but you would think that someone like Pargo would have a much greater immediate impact than a prospect like Dragic. Or maybe Dragic is really that good. The management seem to think so, and are willing to pay a lot of money for the chance to be proven right.
