I gotta tell you, seeing as it looks pretty bleak to get any kind of homecourt advantage in the first round, I wouldn't be unhappy if we dropped to the 6 seed and had to face Denver in the first round. For some reason, we match up well with them and I could see us stealing that series, with or without Lopez. Also keeps us away from a royal ass-kicking by the Lakers in the second round if we were somehow to survive a Jazz series that would have all of us pulling our hair out.

OKC will lose at least one more, which makes it impossible for us to drop to the 6th. OTOH, Denver just lost to Spurs. If we win our next two, we will be almost a lock for the 4th.

i could see OKC winning their last three with relative ease and I KNOW we're going to lose to Utah so the only question is do we beat Denver or not. that remains to be seen.

I just checked and found out that OKC indeed has the tiebreaker over us. So if they win out their remaining three and we just win one lose two, they still finish ahead of us. So, we should just win the Houston game and see whether they could win in Portland which has all the incentive to avoid the dreaded #8 seed themselves. If we lose all three, we have also the theoretical chance of finishing #8 though, in a 4-way tie with SA, OKC, and Portland.

Out of curiosity, what tiebreaker rule would have us finishing as the 8th if there's a 4 way tie. It used to be that the first tiebreak with multiple teams (division winners notwithstanding) was based on cumulative record against all teams involved in tiebreak. If that rule is still the same are you saying we have the worst record of those 4 given your scenario? I'm too lazy to research it, just curious if you have or if you found an article that had figured it out.

no idea, and no incentive to look it up now that we are assured a top-5 seed.;)
