While I am solidly in the Vince Young camp, we really have little chance of getting him. Of the draft-able players that we have a chance at, I am the most interested in LenDale White. That being said, my suggestion for the QB situation this year is to pick up LeCharles Bentley and the guy he has worked with the past few years, Aaron Brooks.
This is from an article by Brent Jones, that addresses the Ravens situation, but I think it is every bit as relevant for us as it is for them:
“I just think sometimes you have to take a chance, and Aaron Brooks definitely falls in that category. He is a high-risk, high-reward guy who is a complainer. That actually helps the Ravens. Because of Brooks’ faults, he won’t command much money on the free agent market.
The Saints basically told him to get lost at the end of the season because of his bad attitude. But Joe Horn mouthed off as well, and the whole ordeal with New Orleans and their situation had everyone on edge. Here is what Brooks can give you:
From 2001-2003, he threw for more than 3,500 yards each year, and his touchdown-interception ratio was 77-45. He also has completed better than 55 percent of his passes in all but one his six playing seasons. And he has rushed for 13 career touchdowns, bringing far more speed and elusiveness than any available quarterback and even Boller.
Granted, Brooks only led the Saints to one playoff year taking over for Jeff Blake in 2000, but questionable defenses and coaches had as much to do with that as him. His attitude is somewhat similar to Blake's, but Blake was older and set in his ways, while Brooks will be just 30 at the start of next season.
My point is if you can rehab his personality (and there has been a lot of that going on around the Ravens recently), I think the guy has the most upside of any QB out there.”
As for me, I think that Warner is struggling to pass his physical. And, whether he passes it or not, I am also sure that the Cards have to be concerned about his injuries and age. My plan would be to get Brooks for a very reasonable price, let Navarre and Davey battle it out for #2, and draft Omar Jacobs if he is available in the 3rd.
Last year, when I first started posting, one of my posts won the coveted “Stupidest Post of the Year” Award. This might fall into the same category, but personally I think it has some merit.
Of course the Cards can feel free to continue to ignore my advice.
